I got the WS99s on Monday. I haven't worn them for more than 2 hours at time and at that point I begin to feel some pressure on my ears. Mind you, my ears are on the larger side so i do end up shoehorning them in the the cup a bit. I seem to notice it a bit less every day, so I will need to update in a week or so. As it has been said before the Hifiman Velours are too big as well as the FA-011 velours.

With probably 15 hours on them, I would call the sound enveloping. Nice, full bass with good impact. I even tried them with my Cmoy BB with the Bass Boost engaged (+9.4db) and it is very enjoyable with Dubstep and other bass heavy genres. Ridiculous bass, at that point, with no distortion until the the mids and highs are beyond my volume tolerance.

The mids of the WS99s are smooth and don't take a backseat to the bass or the treble. Very enjoyable. I sense a little congestion in the lower mids and bass with some complicated music but I wonder if this will clear up with more burn-in.

The highs are present with no harshness or sibilance.

I bought these to complement my DBV#3 modded T50rps for music with more bass. These T50rps (along with some T20rps v2- round drivers, large supra-aural pads I modded) have an uncanny realism to vocals that I have yet to experience before in my limited headphone experience. I don't know if the mids on the WS99 will compare, in the long run, but they serve a different genre-oriented purpose for me.

I am excited to see how these sound with more hours on them but so far I am enjoying the sound.

damn, sucks I can't buy it now

but about the ws99 compared to the pro 900, do they sound similar or not even close ?

Different signature for sure.

I'm going to have to listen for a while. Just not sure if they are in the class of my Denons. Great portable solution - lightweight and with the new pads they are pretty good.

Are there any earpads that actually fit snug on the ws99? The dtxx0 apparently don't fit.
K550?

The Brainwavz HM5 pads are pretty tight, though they are oval and the WS99's are round. Decent fit, not perfect but better than the stockers, which suck.

Pro900 is very V-shaped frequency response, bright, thin, somewhat "metallic" in the highs etc. While WS99 sounds smoother/thicker/warmer due to the more up-front mids. It will come down to taste which is better, the PRO900 is pretty much a love or hate headphone because its very accentuated V-shape response. I personally dislike V-shape frequency response where highs are more accentuated than mids so I know I'd personally take WS99 anytime anyday over PRO900, I'd probably greatly prefer my Q40 to PRO900 as well.

So again it's very important to know your personal taste in how you want it to sound like. For me there's a point where there's too much "clarity & sparkle" even if there isn't sibilance issues. I prefer a more naturally warm/analog sound with up-front mids where it sounds like the vocalist is standing next to you whispering in the ear-sorta feeling. The PRO900 won't give you that, mids sounds like coming from a distance so that will leave me bored and can't get engaged to the music.

Alright, I'll get the hm5 pads, but I'm still wondering if the SRH940 pads or the esw9a pads would work on em.

If the Shure pads are same size as 840's, no way.

This is kinda a random question but would the ws99 look better with green or purple or red earpads? I found two that would fit. The dh1200's drivers are 50mm and they look like they're the same size so they should fit.
These are the green ones

I personally like purple, but that's just me. Favorite color and all. Maybe you really like green!
