The Utsusemi-Works Thread (Sound Dragon, Sound Tiger)

I have that cable you linked to above coming later this month, will share impressions.

This is interesting...

That cable just looks like a BAL --> SE adapter, yet the paperwork included with the Potenza says not to connect a converter to the BAL output as it will degrade the sound and put the circuitry at risk...

This is from the horse's mouth, if I may:

"This cable set uses two of the four channels of the balanced amplifier.
So it will sound as beautiful as the SOUND DRAGON Sonata, but it will be less powerful in terms of sound."

///

Likely with the 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter and the conversion cable together, there's no damage to the circuits. Most of the time, I've been using a 4.4mm to 3.5mm or 4.4mm to RCA IC from Brise because I'm either connecting to Hugo 2 or Lotoo Paw 2017, but the interconnect has to be wired 100% correctly for it to work (so, in other words, I would avoid ordering equivalent cables from Ebay or Amazon).

Thanks for this! I see now, so we're paying to ensure they're cables appropriately wired. Not sure I have use case for SE output at the moment. Concerto in low gain mode is reasonably quiet on the noise front except with the more sensitive BA sets <20ohm...

I will get it just to add flexibility to the amp for SE only headphones or IEMs. The price seems very reasonable to me for that purpose.

I asked Hanten san about the ddhifi DJ30A adapter, this is his reply:
The internal wiring of this adapter is identical to that of the "SE-Attach".
So it can be used with SOUND TIGER Potenza and Sinfonia without any problem.
However, if you do not use a 3.5 mm to 4.4 mm IC cable, noise may ride on it and make it difficult to listen, depending on the DAP.
Basically, the amp will not see the differential signal, only the positive and the ground, and thus half the voltage than if the input was actually balanced. He probably designed the amp's balanced circuit to *not* reject common-mode signals. The impedance balance is likely not maintained, but should be fine if the cable run is short.

Now as to his comment on the noise, I don't really understand it, because using DJ30A+3.5mm IC is exactly the same wiring as using his SE-Attach, if SE-Attach doesn't connect the negative rings.

SE Attach cable adapter received. Not much to say - great build, feels good, sounds good, adds flexibility to the Sound Dragon/Tiger amps. Recommended.

Permit me also to give a shout out to the iBasso DC-Elite & Potenza combo. Small stack, huge sound with IE900. Desert island synergy without a doubt. Just about pocketable; rubber bands optional. Paired here with a Sony Xperia 10VI, which provides excellent battery life for the Elite.

Am I right to assume that either the Hart or ifi 4.4mm to 4.4mm balanced cable would connect the Sinfonia to my ibasso dx300, does anyone know please?

Picked up an RA2BFE to use with DC Elite recently to see how much an external amp would improve things. Well, now there’s no going back lol. DCE is great on its own, but even better with an amp. That being said I’d like to try a few different amps to compare and the Sound Tiger is still on my radar. Can anyone give some more info on Sinfonia vs Potenza differences and why I might want to go with one over the other? The additional power of the Potenza is not a factor at the moment. My library is all over the place so versatility is important.
