So this has been going on for a while, it is spelled out in a variety of net formulaes, but in the end they all mean the same thing. They are also causing Head-fi to be blocked by various filters around the world, particulary among schools and government offices. This was the driving force behind the language cleanup a while back. The use of the above word and any of its derivatives ultimately leads to the same thing...blocking.

Would it be possible then to just use another slang to describe the innards of amps etc? Eye candy? Amp candy? *other*?

Thanks for rolling your eyes and your sympathy for those at work and school who can't view head-fi on breaks. Frankly the term is pointless, and gsferrari has put it plainly.

Some folks work in stricter environments than they may like, and considering this is a PG site, I don't really believe it is difficult to curtail the use of the terms and bring them down to a PG level.

Makes a ton of sense. My school uses a pretty effective auto-filter that scans each loaded page for blacklisted words, if there are more than X number of 'bad' words, then the page is blocked. I'm not sure if all of the head-fi forums would be blocked at school for me, but certain threads would certainly be.

The problem is, i kind of like the term pr0n to describe certain images. Its just a kind of amusing way of putting it.

Well, heres to finding a new alternative.

Not trying to stir up the hornet's nest, but why would the word **** be used in the context of showing photographs of headphone amplifiers? The word pornography means to view a harlot. My Linguistics background tells me that this is a classic case of "He-Man" talk in which men tend to use overtly aggressive, sexist, or violent lexicon to construct their unique viewpoints of the world. This has been most troubling for me. In this post Superbowl / Janet Jackson era, anything you say or do can sprout up a red flag for questionable content or objectionable language.

C'mon guys. Do you really want to get Head-Fi banned for other members?

I have some real questions about your linguistics background!!! Your definition seems incorrect as well as somewhat sexist to me. Actually, the greek "graph" means to write. Ergo, "pornography" means to write about prostitutes (*****) not to "view" them. Also, today, prostitutes could be female or male although the latin "prostitutas" was a feminine form (past participle?). Interestingly enough, "harlot" originally had a male connotation (man w/out occupation/vagabond), but by the 14th century had taken on a female connotation. Not trying to flame. Just a question of linguistics.
Those w/ corrections, please feel free to chime in.
No, I don't want to see Head-Fi banned unnecessarily. I'm all for finding alternatives. Man, what is this world coming to!

I don't know which is sader that the schools and offices need such filters or that they are actually implemented.

Also are they really on so low level as to filter web pages by single words? That's like China's Internet censorship.

Amp fetishism?
