Oh man, how underwhelming. I really hope Senn is working on an HD 900. It'd be a missed opportunity if not, so many people want it. I really hope that it's not that they don't think they have the chops to make another standout open-back flagship. Would be sad
Preparing to be underwhelmed. Haven't heard much news from their audiophile line in a long time, even longer for anything worth getting excited about. We'll see...
If the IE-600 release is true (and is the only product that's slated to be released)*, then I'm not at all surprised given Sonova's primary focus on the hearing aids/audiology market prior to acquiring some of Sennheiser's product portfolio, which included Sennheiser's audiophile line (source: press release materials announcing the acquisition). Given my lowered expectations, all I can muster is a slight disappointment.

Product development is always happening to many "things" at one time, and on timelines the public is not privvy to; always has been, always will be. The new IE's were developed long before this. The influence each business has on the other would bore you to death because it's business stuff and nothing like the "big-box-chain-buys-out-local-community-pillar-to-monopolize-the-market" scenario people normally hear about. The audiophile development team they are folding in is exceptionally talented and driven... they will be supercharged, not parted out.
In general, I try not to comment on business speculation (because so few here have factual insight into the actual sales numbers and market data) but want to try and help recalibrate based on a small handful of comments. The consumer audio market is very big, and the audiophile market is growing. There has never been more choice or variety for the Head-Fier...not just transducers but sources, accessories, etc—even music! The line "This is not going to be a seller for audiophiles" when you have not seen, heard, or experienced the product is not the spirit of Head-Fi. If you were hoping for a new HD and this new release doesn't fit, that's OK—voicing your opinion and thoughts is what makes Head-Fi great. We all have different tastes, needs, budgets, and wants and the conversations are awesome. Please know this: Sennheiser (and virtually all other brands here) would not release a product if there is no business case for it. Product development is not a dartboard with a spinning wheel of things to try, but rather a path to create something new, better, or both.
When it drops, we hope you like it @trellus - we really do! And if you don't at first, we hope you can give it a try. But if you still don't, we're still here to listen to comments and thoughts, impressions, etc to be fair and calculated.
Sorry for the long-winded response, but when an attempt to "kill it in the crib" is made it's not a good look for anyone in a community that thrives off of objectivity, good writing, open-mindedness and curiosity. In fact, many other web travelers end up here in search of that objectivity, which helps grow the space. Thanks for reading.
Obviously, whatever this is will stand on its own, neither negative hype nor positive hype will make a whit of difference.
I am a huge fan of Sennheiser and own many Sennheiser products. I sincerely hope Sennheiser continues to make compelling products of interest to audiophiles.
I like my HD 8XX despite it being pilloried by several prominent reviewers in our community. Products stand on their own. I’m not even a reviewer so I certainly can’t “kill it in the crib,” and besides, I’d LOVE to be wrong about this product and I’ll post as much if I am.

I’m actually kinda hyped for these. The IE 900 sounds significantly better than the IE 300, so if the IE 600 can deliver 80% of the IE 900’s SQ for 50% of its cost, that would be pretty sweet!
I still have issues with them being so small and shallow-fitting that I struggle to get a good consistant fit and the stock memory-wire cables are garbage. But if the SQ is there on the IE 600, it might be worth finding workarounds for those problems.

While I have no idea what the roadmap is, one could surmise that the purchase happened because visions were aligned to some extent across the two companies…
The reality is that the disappointment of a few here is not likely to amount to much if the new earbuds are good. With that said, If I was Sennheiser‘s rep on the forum, I really would only take the disappointment and sadness of the community as a clear message that Sennheiser is still a brand that is loved and respected - it’s only Natural for folks here to have hope given the explosion of new TOTLs in recent times.
I’m buying soon as there‘s a proper affordable Sennheiser flagship so long as it doesn’t sound like the hd700 and doesn’t come with the fit issues that forced me to get rid of my hd820s.
The ie900 is fantastic, now Sennheiser should hurry up and give us the rest of the stuff that’s in the bag, clearly there is more to come and we hope it’s sooner rather than later …
