The Stax Thread III

I'm sure a little bit of contact cement applied with a tooth pick would permanently put things right.

I would probably use a cyanoacrylate after verifying that the piece snaps into place easily.

I've given up on Crazy Glue, lol...except for my L300 headband which didn't adhere, I've stuck (no pun intended) to contact cement which one applies to both surfaces, also hard to tell what those sockets are made of and with Stax going back quite far they might even be Bakelite.

Yeah it wouldn't work for something like the headband arc. It doesn't have that kind of strength. For that i would have gone with something like a few large box staples fitted through drilled holes and crimped tight followed by a slathering of epoxy, or possibly locktite "plastic bonder" which is a urethane. But from what i hear, the arc would then just break somewhere else. Shameful of Edifier to be so chintzy. They should be replacing those arcs for free with an improved version and a written apology.

But cyanoacrylates are ideal for clean surfaces that fit together perfectly and aren't subjected to a lot of stress. I prefer liquid form with a brush applicator but that can be hard to find. Hate the gel stuff.

Amen to that. :sunglasses:

Continuing on with music…Steve Reich’s counterpoint is pretty easy to follow on the Stax due to their quick attack and decay on percussion, piano and plucked strings. Any piece will do but currently engaged with this one.

Hello Rob,

I'm having really bad luck with my orders of all-leather pads from the same seller as yours : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005...st_main.5.3f375e5bIPNFIQ&gatewayAdapt=glo2fra

I ordered the first time in April, and a month later, Ali refunded me because my package was lost by the AliExpress carrier Cainiao.
So I ordered these pads again from the same seller (who is also very friendly).
I received a response from Cainiao today telling me that my package was delivered to my mailbox. But it's empty, and the photo of the proof of delivery shows a different mailbox than mine...

I then opened a complaint with a request for reimbursement.

So I'm very disappointed, and I don't know how to get these pads. A third attempt is too risky for me...

I'm really sorry to hear that you are having that much difficulty.

To me it just sounds like bad luck, though. To supply my various hobbies i place orders on aliexpress every couple weeks. I usually don't have any issues. Cainao / Uniexpress has been really good to me for the last year or so. 7 to 10 calendar days after i place an order, some lady jumps out of a van and throws a package onto my porch (as recorded by my doorbell camera). Nothing to complain about.

It does appear that Uniexpress last-mile delivery is a gig thing though, and that means that sometimes you get poor results because someone working that gig isn't very good at their job.

Why I quickly gave up on fixing mine.
Well first it was because I couldn't get it to stick, but even if I managed to hold it still then it would just break in a different spot.
First on the exact, opposite spot, and then near em. At least that's my guess.

Hello Rob,

Yes, I also looked into Socas and contacted Vesper Audio for some information about purchasing pads.
But communication with them was not clear, and I decided to abandon any orders with them.

Guytou

I didn't realize they sold pads for the X9000, emailed them asking about options. See how it goes.
