The Stax Thread III

LOL, not really displaying the earspeakers when they are in opaque black bags and you have to put a label just to know what's in the bag. Kinda defeats the purpose of the glass case IMHO. But to each their own. :)

The labels would be there regardless of the bags. They aid in quick identification.

I have more lambda since this picture was taken.

I can always take the bags off and see them if I change my mind. I could have gone with a metal cabinet but turning a metal cabinet clear is outside of my capabilities.

This is simply insane lol

I really wish I had a normal bias jack. Unfortunately I needed the second jack for the HE90. Kind of prevents me from going down the vintage stax rabbit hole.. but heh, that could be a blessing lol
I fell into the hole

Lollll. I'm just jealous :)

I'm thinking of trying one of the older lambda models. Just gotta find one that's available.

use this.

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/milsbo-glass-door-cabinet-anthracite-30396448/

You can fit 12 per case without it feeling crowded.

I've a more modest set-up.

But you've given me an idea!
If you don’t want to use plastic bags you could find something similar to this.

I've got a couple dozen Tricker's boot and shoes, along with some Cheaney's and they all came with felt bags.

Yup, that should probably work. 14”x14” is on the high side. You could get away with something smaller and if you already have them on hand then why not give it a shot?

I really like that cabinet. Hadn’t sent that before.

Was at a meetup yesterday. I had my L500mk2(blutac) and a L700mk2 hooked up to my Carbon at the same time since it has two jacks. With music playing and quickly switching back and forth I could convince myself either one was a superior music reproduction device.

If you are getting into Lamba's on a budget don't stress about getting the L700mk2.

I should probably put a bag over my stax 🤔. especially with the house being painted soon. currently they just sit on my DIY stand (Celery Top pine :)) which i think is very nice. i just need to find a big ziplock i guess.

Now you tell me... :triportsad:

Seriously though depending on the recording the L700 will show more insight into the recording but not necessarily add to one's musical appreciation, but for the majority of music the L300/L500 are more than what most would need or want.
I listen to a lot of small chamber ensembles and noticed the L700 was more precise and stable with regards to sound staging and that was worth the price of admission with well mastered/engineered recordings.
If you are getting into Lamba's on a budget don't stress about getting the L700mk2.
So far what I've discovered is that having a descent energizer is important, while the entry level SRM252S was fine it would distort at higher volume levels and it's not gradual, so moving up sort of blows an entry level budget but does up the performance for even the L300.

Hello Rob,

I'm having really bad luck with my orders of all-leather pads from the same seller as yours : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005...st_main.5.3f375e5bIPNFIQ&gatewayAdapt=glo2fra

I ordered the first time in April, and a month later, Ali refunded me because my package was lost by the AliExpress carrier Cainiao.
So I ordered these pads again from the same seller (who is also very friendly).
I received a response from Cainiao today telling me that my package was delivered to my mailbox. But it's empty, and the photo of the proof of delivery shows a different mailbox than mine...

I then opened a complaint with a request for reimbursement.

So I'm very disappointed, and I don't know how to get these pads. A third attempt is too risky for me...

Wait and see if you are refunded or maybe you can track down where that mail box is, I'm sure the recipient is wondering what these rectangular leather pads are for.
Mais comme on dit en anglais..."third time's the charm". :sunglasses:
