The Stax Thread III

you spend all that money on good transformers, at least get a decent stax jack.
I'd gladly buy one if someone here could point me in the right direction. In my searching that was all I found :slight_frown: Headamp used to sell them but that doesn't look to be the case any more.

I did just find THIS on eBay coming from Vietnam. I don't recall it being listed months ago when I ordered parts.

Thanks, good info for future people. I went ahead and ordered the last one available on eBay.

Well, this is as far as I got because one of the leads ripped right off one of the capacitors. On hold for another week or two until I get a replacement shipped.

That seller looks very similar to Felitsa Audio (or was it JR Audio?), who is a known bad actor.
FLS/Felitsa are one and the same, some guy called Thuan Tran (IIRC) and is Vietnam based. I actually think he may have operated under a different name further back before disappearing for a few years and coming back under FLS/Felitsa.

JR Audio is China Based, and entirely seperate.

Both are to be avoided

Momma didn't raise no quitter so I made it work. Using my SRD-7 for bias lol. It's a Frankenstein but it works. Been listening on my Lambda Pro for 15 minutes now and it hasn't burst into flames yet.

After reading about the HE60 on this thread every now and then, I had the good fortune of getting my hands on a pair. Starting to enjoy them off the Carbon right now. :)

Listening to my 007 MK1s on the Lundahls currently (R26 > Freya > Bliss > Lundahl circuit > 007) and it sounds pristine. Haven't yet dared connect the X9000 but excited for when I finally feel that's safe. Haven't ABed withe SRD-7 yet either but one thing I notice, I have to turn up the Bliss 10dB or so more than I usually do (assuming my memory of the usual volume with the 007s is correct). Guessing the windings of the Lundahls are a slightly lower ratio than the ones in the SRD-7. I don't know the ratio of the SRD-7 off the top of my head but the Lundahl 1630s are 14.4:1 (7.2+7.2)

Edit: I'm reading the SRD-7 is 24:1?

I had a Stax transformer box made by Mjolnir Audio using Lundahls (not sure which) which had much lower gain than my Stax SRD-7 Mk II..

That was Lil Knight and he stole over $20k from commissions/chassis work for DIY T2/HV

Well, I got some replacement capacitors (Mundorf 0.33uF 630v) and completed my transformer box, I'm listening now off of it. Bias voltage measures 545v so I'll need to go back and tweak some resistors. Variance can get quite high when you're working in the mega-ohm range. Must say, the 007 Mk1 is sounding quite nice right now with the lower bias though.

Anyway, is there any precaution I have to take with the capactors on the output when unplugging/plugging headphones? They hold charge quite a while. I did hear a little crackle when plugging in my Lambda Pro.

These kinds of questions are probably better suited on headcase since not many here are DIYers
That said - I'm kind of perplexed why you'd go through the trouble of completing a transformer box when you don't have the expertise and are risking far more by damaging your relatively much more expensive headphones.
