The grills are metallic colored. I don’t see them going through the trouble of painting plastic. And I think you meant horizontal grillsLooks like a mixture of circular driver (most likely 007) with Lambda-like vertical grilles, most likely made out of plastic, a bit like Shangri-La Jr
Probably slots in place of the SR-007A under the SR-009S, in the 250,000-300,000 yen price range.

The Stax Thread III
Given the thick the grill lines, the headphones would be pretty heavy if there were solid metal rather than plastic. Also, I see plenty of devices with plastic painted to look like metal. It's like vegan leather pretending to be leather and not a petroleum by product. The grills are metallic colored. I don’t see them going through the trouble of painting plastic. That stars are aligning. Is it just me or does that Omega look like it has a leather headband?![]()

yeah plenty of devices do it but I can’t think of a single stax headphone that does.Given the thick the grill lines, the headphones would be pretty heavy if there were solid metal rather than plastic. Aluminum or Magnesium would be light. The ES-1a largely made from aluminum in the ear cups.
The horizontal grilles on the SGL Jr are metal and that headphone is not heavy at all. It's perfectly plausible for the grilles to be metal on that Stax without it being heavy. It would look kind of like a Hifiman though.

It might not count but I got a possible Stax electret OEM that has metallic plastic grills. That stars are aligning. Is it just me or does that Omega look like it has a leather headband?

They're electret not electrostatic as stated and share a driver similar to the SR-40
Anyway, it really looks like this will be an entry level Stax of sorts and not an SR-007 replacement. The cable is much thinner than the SR-007 and the SRM-2705 follows the SRM-2xx naming scheme of entry level Stax amps.
Also the grey colour is similar to the SRM-D10, so it might not just be an new entry level, but a Chinese made one

Actually the grille design really reminds me of the SRM-D10It might not count but I got a possible Stax electret OEM that has metallic plastic grills.

Those are very interesting looking grills. I’ve never seen a Stax with those and all the SR-40 pics I see online are without that grill. Do you know their origin? It might not count but I got a possible Stax electret OEM that has metallic plastic grills.

They're branded as Napolex, quite a hi-end Japanese manufacturer back in the 1970s and 1980s. I can't confirm that they are made by Stax butThose are very interesting looking grills. 1. Stax has a history of making OEMs such as all the varieties of SR-3 OEMs, the Micro Seiki headphones, a Lambda for HEAD Acoustics and the Airbow Lambdas too.
2. The driver doesn't match the construction of two other known Japanese electret manufacturers, Elega (who did the OEM for pretty much every Japanese electret headphone including Sony) and Aurex/Toshiba. The construction is most similar to how Stax builds their electrets.
3. The body itself is almost identical to the SR-60 and the plastic feels the same as what Stax used at the time.
And finally, 4. They use the very same plug used by Micro Seiki which is known to have their headphones produced by Stax
you can put it in your new STAX tote ("toot") bag lol

I have brainwavz pads that look a bit like that, and my experience is that they suck.Has anyone with an 007 tried this brand?
https://centralsound.co/products/ce...-round-110mm-soft-protein-leather-memory-foam
At only $15 looks like a great deal, not sure if they actually fit "normally" or would have to be glued on.
Pads that work for me tend to have smaller ear cavities, I think that helps to make the 007 work with smaller amps.
eBay lambskin earpads purchased to replace SR202’s hardening pleather pads that wont seal on head. Will update with subjectives.
Comparison photos attached. The eBay pad is not angled.

^ First impression:
- Good seal now, no longer stax farting whenever shifting head just the slightest.
- SR202 has light bass compared to L500. SR202 bass hits like a feather. L500's perceived bass dynamics is merely sufficient in comparison to my other headphones fwiw.
... An aside but L500 build quality is schiit: cheap plastic and creaky.
Measurements: EARS, SRD7mk2
edit: SR507 also has dust cover removed in graph

Definitely looks good, I'm getting a 404LTD and been wondering about replacement pads for it so these look like a great option^ First impression:
