The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

I don't know the 323x does it exist? You are not confused with the 353x? I had the 323A with the L700 and I wanted an upgrade to the T1S which is almost the same machine as the srm 006ts I heared. People use the 353X but I don't know how good it is. Someone? What is better the 006ts or the 353x? I don't mind the tuby sound. Best wishes
yes i meant 353x

can i ask what is a better amp with l300 limited edition or l700, the srm323s or 353x, whats the difference between those two amps sound wise, i have the srm323s would it be an okay amp for those l300 le or l700

SRM-323S = SRM353X basically ... no real difference other than you get XLR inputs. If you have 323S no reason to go with a 353X unless the DAC only has balanced out. Much better to save up and go with a different, higher level of amp to improve the low end and add fullness and smoothness to the sound.

SRM-323S is a decent driver unit for the SR-L300 Limited, but if you already have a really good stereo amp you can get noticeably better sound out of it for not that much more than a used SRM-323S by getting an E-stat transformer to use with the stereo amp. It keeps the same speed, clarity, and detail as the STAX SRM-323S but can noticeably improve the low end, both in subbass extension, subbass impact, and midbass punch and overall improve the warmness/fullness and smoothness of sound. Pair that with a high quality DAC and some EQ for the low end and you'll have a VERY nice sounding L300 Limited/L700.

for a better stax enjoyment since i already have the srs323s, so i am not that eager to collect amps, would adding the l300 limited to the srm323s make a difference than just using the 307 with the srm323s

I used to have 323s and 353x at the same time. The 323s is the better amp overall. if you are looking for neutral sound, actually very neural with big sound-stage and smooth highs with good bass extension. The 353x have thicker/louder low end but more fatigue at high frequencies smaller head-stage and not neutral, more exciting sound, if you u fatigue easily s353x is more fun. I sold 353x but i would say they are equal amps.

l300le / l700 is greatly superior to previous lambda in technical term and tonality in general you get 80~90% of 009/007 performance

I have both a L300LE and 009S
Sorry however I have to strongly disagree with the statement "80-90% of the 009 performance"

Hello. I am considering getting either an L300LE or L700. I currently have an SRM-T1. Would it be a good for for these? Also, how do the Koss ESP 950's sound in comparison? I do like the Koss 950's, but have seen them compared w/ HD 650s and L300Le or L700s compared w/ Focal Clears. Basically, I would like a bit more bass and more details than my ESP 950. Hoping Stax Lambdas are the answer. Thanks!

Hi I have the L700 with the T1S and they play well, I did buy a better Dac though the Ayre QB-9 secondhand 24/96 for Qobuz hires. Or a bit hires. They told me it is pratically the same machine as the srm 006ts, so the T1 is too but not balanced. I don't know the Koss, but I was thinking of getting a T1.2 with an OTL amp for the RCA output of my Dac. They say electrostats are very good but I like a pair of byerdynamics for an other Headhpone feel.Perhaps a second hand WA2 or something of Feliks aodio. I broke my L700 yoke so I am a bit angry over the build quality. I think Koss may be better in that department. I have the yoke repaired I shyed away from glue or even epoxy. Soundwise They say good Stax is better than good Koss, but it is hearsay. Best wishes Yoram

It depends on the e-amp you use: Stax amps can bring the latest Lambdas to 80-90% sound quality of what the 007/009-series can get, but other amps rated 40W or higher will show the limits of what the Lambdas can do and yield less than 80% sound quality of what you get with the 007-series, but especially with the 009-series. It’s not just the acoustic range from the chassis frames, but also the increase in perceived harmonics you get with the increased driver surface area as well from the more diverse power grids in the amps.

hi just need some help making a decision, so my plans with stax is just to get l300 limited edition or l700, i have great amps like ifi ican pro for my planars, and i wanted to get a taste of what stax are, so I got the srm 323s with stax 307 and I like it, since I am planning to get to the L300 LE or the L700, is it that necessary to change the srm323s, if yes is there some cheaper ways than ifi iesl that are recommended so I can use my stax headphones with the ifi ican pro and what would be a downside of using such things that allows me to use my stax with ifi ican pro

Hi I do think the iFi iESL is too expensive, since it works like a Woo Wee and Woo sais it self do not use the Woo Wee for the better Stax cans. If you have the SRM 323S and you want to upgrade start with the better Lambda cans, then you can always upgrade your energiser. -? Maybe?

Yoram, I have the Beyer T1.2 paired with a Bottlehead Crack and absolutely love it. Endorsed whole-heartedly! I also see that you have an L700 paired with a SRM-T1 and enjoy that combo. That's good news as that's similar to the pairing I will be using. I have an earlier T1, not the T1S, but think they're probably really pretty close in sound quality.

Hi Cobrabucket, I was thinking of the Feliks audio Elise OTL amp/ pre amp. So I have some saving to do. It is more or less as expensive as the WA2 but without the taxes added, since I live in Europe. The Bottlehead Crack is a DIY amp kit and I am not so krafty in DIY. I thought for the T1.2 to compete with Sax it needs good amping. And good amping for Stax by Mjolnir Audio is al lot more expensive. Taxes too. Iceland. Best wishes Yoram
