Any comparison between SR507 & the new L500?
Thanks

On my recent trip to Japan I managed to try the latest Stax headphones (L500, L700) I already have the 507 at home but I still use the demo unit in the store so I can have a side by side comparison. It was a quick comparison because I spent more time with L700, 009 and 007A( which is what I ended up getting).

I find L500 slightly darker overall compared to SR-507. SR-507, L700 and SR-009 have somewhat similar sound signature. Perceived detail and clarity are the difference I perceive between the 3 and requires intense concentration to actually came up with the difference. L500 for me did not sound like a Stax phone in terms of clarity and resolution.

If you like SR-507, L700  maybe the upgrade path for you. SR-009A is also nice but the price difference imo is not justifiable considering L700 is very close (507 is not far behind as well).

sorry to bump this old thread, but i'm curious.

Currently I'm using the 252S amplifier with the "baby stax" SR003s at work.

I absolutely LOVE them because they give me that airy, open air sound, but with minimal, to almost zero, noise leakage.  I can play my music comfortably loud, and my coworkers near me can't hear a thing.

Given the 252S and pro connector, I have a trip to JP coming up in a couple weeks and was thinking of upgrading to the SR507.

How is the 507 in terms of leakage?  Will they leak considerably more than the 003?  Given the wider area of outer baffles I'm guessing yes, but I wanted to confirm from somebody who has first hand experience.  Will they leak as much as say, grado SR series open air cans? Leakage is the main concern - I assume sound quality is a nice step up from the 003s?

don't know 507, but using 252s with sr 007, which works very well. I had the 203 originally which is construction wise re leaking equivalent to 507. Here you face a so called dipole characteristics, which means that the sound energy emitted to the ear is the same a the one leaking.
So it sounds great, but for the cost of considerable leakage (aka open cans)

Hope this is helpful

Yes, they leak A LOT. Electrostatic drivers basically produce music in two directions: to the ear, and outward. There is only one closed pair that I'm aware of (Stax SR-4070) which is discontinued and rare. All other common stats are very open and have close to no isolation.

Can someone please help me.

I am stuck between purchasing the L300 or 507 now, or save for the L700.

I have previously owned the L300 and liked them a lot. Are the 507 a step up in technicalities or doing anything better than the L300?

Are the L700 clearly heads and shoulders above these?

I enjoy the L300 signature over the 007 Mk1s - I like a tad bit of aggression in my headphones. L300 were very good.

Then you will love L700s for sure.

I have L700, SR507 and 007mk2 driven by mjölnir kgsshv. 007mk2 is better than 507 for any kind of music. However, L700's detailed presentation and treble crispness is on par or better than 007s. Both are more bassy than L700s. 007mk2 bass quality is better than 507s.

What kind of music do you listen to?

L700 is not made for edm imho for instance.
