The Shenzhen Benjie BJ-T6 / AGPtek Rocker
Feb 18, 2019 at 5:44 PM Post #721 of 775
So I got the T6 with the 1.08 Beta FW and wanted to update it to the AGPtek rocker 1.2. Got it from the AGPtek site, because the link on the first page of this thread is not working.
Copied it to the sd card and went to the update option. The T6 powered off, but then when the update app started, it failed, and the T6 booted up again with the 1.08 Beta...

Does anyone have a copy of a good 1.2 FW version? Thanks!

Hi guys I need a little help. I used this firmware on my Benjie T6

https://ufile.io/7wxdy

and now my T6 is on Agptek firmware v1.2. However, upon startup it boots directly to the official firmware and not let me choose to boot into Rockbox. .rockbox folder has been put on my exFAT sdcard. Another thing to note, when I start it up, Benjie logo shows first then the Agptek logo shows in the second stage. Please help

What you did just gets you to agptek firmware.

Once you have the agptek firmware, see post 707

Once you have the agptek firmware, see post 707. It has a link for the update file you then need to run so the t6 will have the dual boot option.

Good luck!

@breeman -
I forgot - is the update.upt to enable dual boot that you linked in post 707 the one that works with newer benjie firmware, or is it the one that works with the original t6's?

(There was a change in the model designation string needed in the update.upt to work with newer t6's, the ones that come with 1.07 or 1.08. I forget whether I had to patch it when I upgraded my 1.07 t6)

Yep I have a later one that came with v1.08beta. It seems like I have to patch it up. Do you happen to know how to do it?

Edit: I successfully did it :)
Anyone who has newer version of the Benjie T6 (shipped with firmware version 1.08Beta) use this file to get AGPTEK v1.2 firmware AND rockbox

Don't forget to grab the lastest build from rockbox for your device from here
https://build.rockbox.org/

Put the .rockbox folder and the firmware update file onto your exFAT sdcard, rename the update to update.upt and go to settings to update. After update boot into Hiby first to ensure everything is mounted properly. After that Rockbox will work :)

I was just about to comment that I have an old Benjie T6 and never had that firmware update issue but I'm glad there's a patched .upt file out there that works (in case I ever need to replace my T6 with a new one).

Also, these are the instructions on compiling the dual-boot .upt from the Rockbox developer who created it: https://github.com/wodz/rockbox-wodz/blob/agptek-rocker/tools/agptek_rocker/README

I'm having something of a problem with rockbox. When I skip to another track in a folder I've played before, it starts the music at random intervals. One song will play 45 seconds into it, another will be 5 seconds at the end. Something to do with resuming, is there a setting I can change to fix it?

Thanks everyone for your continuing interest in the T6/Rocker as well as the Rockbox mods. I took a bit of time to update my Post #1 to reflect some new file locations, firmware updates and Rockbox info. I will continue to try keeping this info updated but I am working on other projects so will only do so intermittently.

If anyone is having issues with updating firmware to the preferred AGPtek 1.2 version, please go to https://www.agptek.com/index.php/blog/agptek-rocker-firmware-download-2/ to download the required .upt file.

They also have a version of 1.2 in that same location that has the required hooks for Rockbox. Use that version if you would like to try Rockbox out.

I generally prefer the Rockbox player but do note that the latest implementation seems to not yet have a good control of the device backlighting and this might result in a faster battery drain versus the plain AGPtek V1.2 (Hiby player) firmware. This might be fixed soon enough with an upcoming update to Rockbox.

Good to see it's back online, the link was dead for months.
And yes, terrible battery life. It drops to nothing after less than six hours.

I tried the dual boot option and removed it again.
The T6 can start playback at the last stop point with only one button pressed. With the dual boot option it was not working this way.
At first I forgot to reactivate the Resume. After that the time the player is waiting for a boot decision is annoying.
As I use it mainly for audio books (what a waste!) after my Benjie K9 became unusable with a defective headphone jack I want this option urgently.
