The Sennheiser Orpheus 2? A First Look At The Sennheiser HE-1 (The New Orpheus)

As much as I respect Axel Grell's work, there were a lot of signs that it was time for some new blood. Look at the HD-700, HD-800S, HD-820, etc. Two of them are excellent headphones, but they are all iterations on the HD-800 driver. For example, I like the HD-820, but I never bought into the claim that using Gorilla Glass in a headphone was a cutting edge advancement. Axel said in his talks that he considers the HD-800 driver the best in the world. I think that statement has not been true for quite a long time. Time will tell if this is the end of Sennheiser or just a new chapter.
HD700 is shiit, 800S is shiit compared to the original (ftw).

820 is a the biggest disappointment when it came out. If I needed my Hd800 closed, I grab my phones gorilla glass and slap it together

820 is a the biggest disappointment when it came out.

People were expecting a lot more from the HD-820, but if you compare it to similarly priced closed-backs, it holds up very well. I compared it to the Ether Flow 1.1 C and the Focal Stellia. It had pluses and minuses. I chose the Stellia, but could have been happy with the HD-820 (and for $1000 less).

Electrostatic is a niche product. They will lose money if they go this route. Cough stax bankruptcy.... but it be nice to see a JR HE-1 and that's it. Maybe a limited batch of 1000 HE-1 JR.
YEsssss I wholeheartedly agree with this idea. HE-1 JR without the slab of rock and ransom payment. Make it kill the upcoming SR-Omega.

...HD800 drivers are superior. You hear next to zero dead driver issues and it is robust. All they needed to do was put that driver in a wooden shell and see what happens. I actually suggested this to them :p
....
That's an interesting idea. I would be interested to hear what that would sound like. I am one of those that prefer the original over the S.

I wonder if this would sound something like the D9200? I haven't has long listening sessions with the 820 but the D9200 should be what the 820 should have sounded like.

I for one would love a baby HE1, given I still consider it the best headphone I've ever heard.

You hear that Senny? Give us totl flagship electrostat!

your reign in the high end market is crumbling @Sennheiser, you’re getting eaten from left and right by your competitors, your beloved hd800 is not the king of dynamic headphone anymore, focal utopia is! Get of your high horse! pull your Schiit together! Bring out that new toy of yours and put those manufacturers in ther place or fade into obscurity!:stuck_out_tongue:

It’s no wonder Axel left you Sennheiser, he’s just too good for you... left before the Schiit hits the fan. I guess starting his own bakery business earns him more profit thn working for you...

I've heard the 009 on a Blue Hawaii. Sorry, but I just don't like it. Not a signature I like, the HE1 sounds a lot smoother and natural to my ears. I prefer pretty much every other Stax to the 009 though. So, horses for courses :)

I am currently really enjoying the Verum 1. It might not look the part, but to my ears it sounds like a top headphone, with regards to the characteristics most important to me, which is tonality, timbre, smooth frequency response and a good balance of musicality and detail :)

This applies to the original 009. So the 009s might very well be different

Yes, the 009 + BHSE is overrated. Shot fire!
BHSE with 007 is great thou.

Might have to check out the verum. Heard many great things about it.

this thread seems dead for the supposed Best headphone in the world, the price really is making these too exclusive for a really in depth bicker... err discussion by owners like in other thread huh, now with recent news of Sennheiser's consumer line and Sonova what's happening with the company, really?
i know they're kinda a traditionalist (well what other kind of company spend 10 years making a successor to a 20k headphone and release it as a 80k one?) of a company that in some ways having a hard time modernizing, even more in a market rive with new hard hitters despite coming from much, much smaller group of people. But I really thought Sennheiser was an unstoppable force with the amount of heritage and history it has, they also have a lot of headphones standing in the annals of history as classics, surely like other old hands like Beyerdynamic and Sony they still have a lot of life left in their hands?
well i hear they have anew headphone set to be released the day after tomorrow, any guess on what It is?
