The Reference 6SN7 Thread

Thanks - at this point in my tube journey I am only looking for very special great sounding tubes. I found the 14N7 special...
The 14n7 is one of my go-to tubes, it is usually my default these days. I do also really like the b36 from GEC/Marconi but it is harder to find them for a reasonable price. Can you use other voltages besides 6v and 12v? I do sometimes enjoy the Brimar 13d1 which runs at 25v. At this very second I am using some Western Electric 407a. I had the adapter made so that they use 20v. Not a *sn7-oid but a twin triode:)

I have a couple of Brimar 13D1 (25SN7) tubes - they were the tube Glenn started out with in his amps, but I haven't used it in my Ultimate yet. With a PC 15A PS and a 15A voltage regulator I can run anything between 4 and 30V. At the end I got tired of all the wires and the ugliness and prefer a more simple setup.

Does anyone knows if EL34 are a direct replacement in Lampizator Poseidon? Thanks.
You’d need to send a note to either Lukasz or Andy at Lampizator and ask them. The Poseidon is configured for triodes- it’s circuit may not allow for Pentode operation.

Me : Mom, can I have Melz 6N8S at home?
Mom : No. We have Melz 6N8S at home.

Meet the Telam 6N8S, apparently a Polish clone of the famous Melz. 😅

What surprised me more is that it’s an excellent sounding tube although I’m not sure it sounds like the Melz lol. It sounds closer to TS BGRP, a meatier & high contrast kind of sound.

No 6SN7 is worth that price lol, the price my tube seller offers is far below that.

For some reason the Telam has really good synergy with Elrog Mo in my amp (EC Balancing Act) and using ZMF Caldera. Paired with the wrong driver tube the Elrog can sound thin and boring but it's not the case with the Polish tube. It's a bit of a midcentric tube but not as mid focused like British tubes.

I recently got these tube rings, it's working great while placed on 2 of 4 output tubes and it really tightened up the bass and seems to exude more taut details and overall more refined sound on my Melz 6sn7 (the cheaper non-5-hole version I posted a photo of earlier). It's made out of a unique type of a substance like a hybrid between a rubber band / gel and so it always retains its elasticity and stretches to fit on almost any tube.

ive been looking for a thorough comparison of all the boutique and overpriced chinese-made 6SN7 and 6SL7; i am very interested in picking up some new procution 6SN7. im grateful for the great deal of experience on this forum.
Personally I do not have experience with these tubes, but I did notice that the prices are much lower if you buy directly from China on sites like AliExpress etc. I would be interested to know if people have experience buying directly and if the tubes are the same quality as from more conventional sources.

true that; im dont know these or the sellers too well, and it take up a LOT of time to return defective tubes. now, as far as the horizon, psvane them selves insist to only buy thru amazon. linlai global used to claim that they wre the only authorized dealer for linlai tubes. i just dont know enough to navigtate.

also, every time i get the name and contact of a top notch chinese tube seller i lose it! darnit.
