OK, an early NEW YEAR present for all....:gift::gift:🥂🥂:confetti_ball::confetti_ball::fireworks::fireworks:
Try these tubes if you havent yet.

MAZDA 30L1, 30L15, 30L17, these are all dual triode tubes and use the same adapter.
These were all made by Brimar

MAZDA 6L18, single triode tube. These might be made by Marconi.

...n MULLARD ECL80, a Triode-Pentode tube. Run as twin on Triode section or Strapped Triode on Pentode section..
Shown here are relabeled Lorenz...look for "B" code for Mullard production as Siemens also made this.

lastly, MULLARD ECH42, a Triode-Hexode tube. Again, run as twin on Triode section or Strapped Triode on Hexode section...whichever sound better to you. Again, there are Mullard, TFK, Siemens, Philips, etc....look for code to determine.

Kind Reminder: Always study the datasheet and understand what you are putting onto your amp. I take no responsibility if your amp blew up.

Enjoy and have fun!!!
Besides the adapters, totally gorgeous pics! These should be the centerfold in the February edition Tube Porn Monthly magazine.... 🤣

Huh, just saw that this thread has been going since 2005. Sure wish tube prices were the same now!

I’ve been listening to the 2c50 as an input with 6ar6 output tubes in my SE pentode amp. Compared to a clear glass RCA 6sn7gta, the 2c50 is cleaner, more detailed, and has a startingingly articulate bass. I’m getting that addictive purity through the midrange that I love for voices. I’m also noticing strings on instruments more. When someone lets harmonics ring out on a guitar or veena I feel like I can distinguish which strings are left ringing.

My previous tries with this tube left me cold. Maybe it’s just this combo that is working so well. I’m going to try them with the kt61, a tube that tended to be quite warm in this amp before. The 2c50 I have is labeled Raytheon but Brent Jesse claims that they were made by Bendix. I posted close ups of the plates earlier in the thread. They are heavy enough that I believe the Bendix heritage.

I can pin point few members in this thread mostly responsible for the price hike especially Melz tubes. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Maybe not the best place to ask this, but there is no general tube thread is there...and you veteran rollers are all here :p

National Electronics rebranded alot of things, but does anyone know if they rebranded some of Western Electric's inventory?

No... and worse... they allow the solid sanders to post amidst us thermionic angels.

The big 6AS7/6080 thread is tucked in a dark corner of the cables thread. Seems the threads are organized by amp brand mainly. The 6SN7 and 6J5 threads are the exception. We could ask to have them removed. :joy:

No idea about Nat El rebranding WE.

The 6080 thread was my 2nd choice, there might be a WE historian with a deep fascination with the 421A

I think removing the 6SN7 and 6J5 threads could be interesting… you may see a lot of different cults rising in each amp’s threads 😂

When talking about the sounds of tubes I think it makes more sense to talk about them with other people using the same amp. Threads like this one are great for general questions.

I completely agree with this to a point, but you can still get some kind of idea what a tube sounds like regardless. For instance, the Melz 1578 hole plate is super transparent and is on the cooler/thinner side of the spectrum with expansive staging, and that comes through no matter what amp you are using.

Yes. Most famously with the 350B.

Definitely true that the way a tube sounds is amp dependent.
That said, some tubes sound very good in almost any setting .

Melz 1578 is probably the last "super" 6SN7 I haven't tried yet. Have you compared it to the metal base Sylvania 6SN7W/A before?
