But the top listing is only $439.58 for 24 months. How can anyone pass that up? 🤣

Update: don69-andy responded right away to ship me a good one. This is why need to buy from a reliable source 😀
Update: don69-andy's replacement of METZ 1578 arrived in great shape. In WA5, the METZ sounded great, better than 1942 Tung-Sol 6F8G RBP which is already fantastic. Faster, more air, better imaging, tighter bass (Not A/B test though).

Sent to Tim at luminousaudio to re-solder the pins. Tim did a great job. Deadly quiet after the re-soldering work. Save time and hassle for those who don't want to bother DIY re-osoldering work , $60 a piece, contact Tim: https://www.ebay.com/usr/luminousaudio?_trksid=p4429486.m145687.l151931

Tim also repairs Western Electric 300B. Two of my WE 300Bs had a small piece fallen inside (probably due to pull them off too hard) and stopped working. Tim fixed both. Give him a try: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1343863706...04&osub=-1~1&crd=20230924111927&segname=11051

At $799 a pair from don69-andy, the METZ 1578 is truly amazing. The SQ improvement (over 6sn7 or 6f8g) can rival my change of 1990's WE 300B to other 300Bs, which is far more expensive than the money spent for the METZ.

58 people are actually watching that?

Watching is free … just keep the index finger / cursor the hell away from “SUBMIT” … 😯

If anyone is looking for Melz 1578s - I'm selling a pair of Sylvania 6sn7w from 45 - Short Bottle.

I think they are better tubes than the 70s 1578s I own, but I invested so much in the Melz I don't see much option but to try and let them grow on me. I think they have a lot of similarities but the Sylvania 6sn7w has a sprinkle of fairy dust, my Melz do not.

The Melz from the 70’s and 80’s are certainly not my favorites even though I own some to complete my collection.😜
The so called 1578’s from the 50’s and early 60’s are another matter entirely. They rated toward the top of over 1500 6SN7’s and equivalents friends and I ran blind tests on. A Sylvania or two did crack the top 25.😉

That was a commendable and meaningful event that you organized, although there can be nothing definitive about an effort to evaluate and rate various 6sn7s absolutely - too many interactions with the nature of the headphone (800s has treble issues, somewhat unnatural staging and frequency response), output impedance of the amp, tubes used with the amp, the big issue of the DAC itself etc. So the best tube would certainly fit together with all these different interactions but not necessarily be the best tube in another system. It’s certainly been work finding the right tubes for my set up. But I would love to see that list because I’m sure it does have validity in many respects in determining the best of the best. I’ve been surprised by the 6sn7s I’ve preferred vs not enjoyed at times (true 70s Melz 1578s) and I think it is predominantly synergy with my system (Envy + ER300Bs, WE300Bs + Susvara / Utopia, and my own preferences). In my system the 70s Melz doesn’t blend well with the strengths of the ER300Bs or WE300Bs as many other tubes, with my headphones, dac, my library etc. Your knowledge as a senior member of this forum and member of the trade is always appreciated.
