Thanks for that. The proprietor's cv is rather interesting.

After reading around, my summary is, the etracer while not the most accurate compared to stuff with actual transformers, is accurate enough to gauge whether a tube is good to use.

I think for us that only want to protect our precious amps, its good enough. Sellers that want to match stuff probably want something better.

It can't test for shorts so thats something to consider too.

Maybe someone else can educate me if I am wrong or there are better choices, but I think from the sheer amount of types it can test, it wins on flexibility alone.

As for protecting your amp against short from tubes, you just need a multimeter.

That doesn’t test for golf ball sphericality and buoyancy? … 😳
I only wish @UntilThen 's golf balls were buoyant. I wouldn't have to pack full scuba gear every time I caddy for him. 🤣

Back in the day, they had whiffle golf balls, great for practice in the back yard'

Ah, I have heard this said on a number of occasions since being a member, and thought there probably are a lot of people out there who don’t know what an AVO/Multimeter is. Now, I have owned this Multimeter for decades, which I used to use in the days of fixing my own cars! Do I really know how to use it NO. Would I like to test tubes for shorts YES. I believe the setting I have now will test for a short…but which pins to connect too? Perhaps for the KT66 or 6SN7 shown.

I just feel that the best driver is not 6sn7 unfortunately. If Envy uses ECC35, ECC34 or ECCC32, it would be a different story. Those are end game drivers in my opinion. Alternatively go for a good 2 x 6J5 or 2 x GEC L63.

I'm using 2 x Hytron 7A4 and EL39 here and it's incredible. When I switch to ECC35 (the tube in the middle) it's even better but the 7A4 are pretty close.

Or do what @Wes S is doing with his Cayin 300b amp and use dual GEC VR135 with adapter in each 6sn7 sockets. It's ugly but I think it will sound great. I'm waiting for the tube and adapters to arrive to try it in this amp call Ultimate, which btw is an incredible sounding OTC amp.

The ecc32 (CV181) can be used, it is stated in the manual. They were brilliant with Sennhieser HD800S at medium gain.
