I use fine emery board/sand paper to clean the tube pins. Then I clean them with spray for electronics on a cotton bud. I dont want that residue dirt in my amp's sockets. I haven't seen a need to clean the amp sockets so far.

Similar thing for me. I use a wire brush and gently brush off the pins and follow up with an electronics cleaner and some pipe cleaners I have on hand

I use a Dremel with brass brushes, followed by a wipedown with Isopropyl Alcohol on the tube pins. As for the sockets, I've never cleaned mine short of blowing a little compressed air in every now and again.

I've been considering whitening treatments as well

I am all of the above! I decided a while ago…no more tubes. So why o WHY, out of boredom did I decide to nosey around 6sn7 tubes on eBay!
I just failed miserably when I came across this Brimar CV1988, earliest I have come across. January 1946. Anyone come across earlier?
Oh, how do you stop this disease

I find that I can actually avoid buying tubes if I stay off of ebay. Even if I don’t buy anything there it gets me into the tube zone and I end up spending money I shouldn’t. Congrats on the tube, looks good!Idiot, fool, halfwit, dunce, cretin, imbecile, dullard, simpleton, clod, nitwit…and more flavoursome terms.

It's so dangerous just opening eBay. I sometimes go on there to check finished auctions to get an idea of tube prices, but the darn software developers and their algorithms know me well. There are always tubes in the "recommended" section that are tempting.I find that I can actually avoid buying tubes if I stay off of ebay. I find it quite hard to date Brimar tubes unless they have the military codes like these. I tried to match up a bunch of singles, but there are so many slight variations...Idiot, fool, halfwit, dunce, cretin, imbecile, dullard, simpleton, clod, nitwit…and more flavoursome terms.

Interested - I have a CV423/13D1 (25SN7) of this tube, and the markings on it are RF | KB/FB and 3c3 under the '13D1' etching that is barely visible .. are any of these date codes? If so, what date?I find it quite hard to date Brimar tubes unless they have the military codes like these. I tried to match up a bunch of singles, but there are so many slight variations...
I understand where you’re coming from, hence why I stick to the CV1988’s with military codes.I find it quite hard to date Brimar tubes unless they have the military codes like these. I tried to match up a bunch of singles, but there are so many slight variations...
I do have a couple of exceptions though as one was effectively free, and the other very cheap, each with little or no markings, so no definitive dates. A nice bonus was that each tested well. Pics attached.
One has a black base with black plates and rectangular getter. The other is brown base with grey plates and halo getter. The reason I highlight these is because I have put them in an amp as a pair, and with your eyes closed, you would never know they were quite different!

Those brimars look very similar to RCAs
