Whoever it was, I thank you. You saved me money for nothing.

Earlier this weekend my prized CBRZ Frankie would no longer heat the heaters. I did what any tube hoarder collector would do. Go shopping for healthy Frankies, Didn't need 7 - probably only a couple in this batch anyhow.

After losing the auction, the only option was Frankie resurrection. And with a little tap-tap tap - and a withering gaze of scrutineering unleashed upon its dark innards - Frankie came back to life! Heaters heating. Signals signaling. The whole tubular operation was back and I frolicked in the sonics.

The moral of this story. Tubes are tough. And so are their hoarders custodians.

I have two tubes with dead heaters. They died in my 'care'. I just read about resurrecting a loved tube by heating heater the pins. Should have thought about it before since I have treated noisy tubes this way.

I have “healed” at least a dozen octal tubes by resoldering. Kind of hard to do with a loctal though. Three cheers for the obvious sorcery employed by @LobalWarming .

How many of these had dead heaters?

None that I know of. Two had dead triodes, but I don't remember looking to see if the filament was lit (they had zero GM in the tester). Most were just noisy or crackly.

I purchased my first vacuum tube headphone amplifier - Cayin HA300MK2 - about 4 months ago. I have replaced the stock Tungsol 6sn7GTB tubes with RCA smoked glass 6sn7GT tubes manufactured in the 1940s. I noted that a background noise developed in the one channel. I presumed that I had a noisy 6sn7 driver tube, but when I switched the driver tubes from left-to-right the noise disappeared. I then read that the most common cause of a noise problem was a poor electrical connection between the tube's pins and the metal contacts inbuilt into the tube socket, and the recommendation was to clean all those metal parts.

As a neophyte vacuum tube amplifier owner, how can I learn how to clean the 6sn7GT driver tube's pins and the metal contacts that are inbuilt into the tube socket?
