The Reference 6SN7 Thread

There’s a big “6SN7GT” label on the base. Not the usual way of designating 12sn7 tubes lol. Best thing you can do is admit you missed that picture otherwise I doubt many people will be buying tubes from you lol.
I hope he will sell some highly sought after "12.6V" 6SN7GT tubes for cheap...lol

Whatever you do, do not run 6SN7GT tubes in 12.6V...you will burn out the filament of the tubes. Yes, you have the 6.3V version.
They light up pretty good for a while tho

I am looking for a matched pair of Brimar 6sn7 tubes. Does anyone know a reputable seller? Thanks in advance.
.... just realise that the Brimar 6SN7 (or CV1988) with KB/FE marking is truly a 'holy grail' within the 6SN7 type. Expect to pay $$$$$ or £££££ or ¥¥¥¥¥ or €€€€€ or ....

4 Brimar 6J5 with adapters might be the cheaper route

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. Yes, that's quite pricey - though I really want to try them. At least now I know where I can acquire once I am ready to move forward with it. Thank you again!

Edit: Thank you as well @robo24! I will look into it right now. :)

I think there were a few different variations. I could never bring myself to spend that kind of money on a tube let alone a pair of them. I do use the Brimar 13d1, a 25sn7. Think it is a very good tube. You can get an adapter to allow you to use different voltage tubes and save a lot compared to the 6sn7 world.

They've got 3x 1940's black plate foil getter at £200/tube. Highly recommend these over the black glass.

If you get these from Langrex, definitely test them when they arrive. I got a pair of Brimar 6SL7 from them and both tubes have problems. I have no doubt they would've replaced them, but I waited too long to test. We've had a few other bad tubes from Langrex that they've replaced because we've been more prompt letting them know.

Great advice. I've purchased a number of tubes from Langrex over the years and have received a few that were not good. He's replaced them without question each time, but it doesn't appear that he tests before shipping (or maybe just doesn't test very well).

I bought a pair of Brimar tubes in February from Bullztubez on eBay, he is my most trusted seller. They ran me a lot more than anything by far, but this was my only system upgrade for the year. He considers them the best, and they do sound better than my second best vintage Raytheon's that were very good. He has a pair for sale now as well, you can see how he tests every pair carefully and puts the ratings on the boxes. Here is his listing title on eBay: BRIMAR CV1988 6SN7GTY *THE HOLY GRAIL* TUBES PLATINUM MATCH on AT1000 TESTS NOS

IME, best to pay the Langrex Matching 'n Testing Tax. If you want to use functional tubes for slightly higher cost. But if you feel lucky, skip that part and enjoy tube warehouse roulette.

This is good advice. I'd still test them, though. Just to be safe.
