Because many 7N7's sound as good or better than 6SN7's of the same vintage that cost many multiples of the price. That's why.
Which 7n7's beat Melz 1578(6SN7) and G73R(12AU7)? Also do you suppose I could use them with Envy with an adapter?

What does "beat" mean? Different tubes have different attributes which contribute or detract from different circuits in different gear for different speakers, different rooms and different ears and tastes. Some tubes have generally agreeable sonic attributes more than others, like the Melz 1578 and a handful of others. But is there a king of kings? Don't be ridiculous. My dad can beat your dad, schoolboy.

But that’s no fun being all Swiss Miss neutral. I’ll spill the tea. any GE short bottle 7N7 with triangle plates especially, is king of kings. Also any Phillips JAN ECG blue print 5814a is king of the 12au7s. Everyone is welcome!Very well said, and I couldn't agree more.

When I say better, yes there are clear technical attributes which make one superior: resolution, staging, separation, decay, note density, etc. Tonal is opinion, technicalities are not.

Technically, it's all opinion. Some opinions more debatable than others. When I say better, yes there are clear technical attributes which make one superior: resolution, staging, separation, decay, note density, etc. Tonal is opinion, technicalities are not.
