I wonder if the seller of those fuses actually gets any sleep at night or if they were just born without a conscience
He sleeps in the back of the limo while he's being driven to the bank. šŸ¤£

Only two- where are your backups?
It took me long to find a pristine pair for a fair price. Coincidence gave me a cherry picked AQ2408. I hope those are rare.

So this would be the reason why I don't have more GECs. Starting to organize my collection right now. Before it was quite hard to find a certain tube.

Those will hold their value. As long as you don't actually use them :) Rare antiques - especially a matching pair like that with matching boxes.

What tubes are inside those Los Gatos and Pope boxes? I think both those companies were rebranders. Maybe Philips in the Pope boxes? Fivre in the Los Gatos boxes?

I also keep my tubes in boxes like that. Had to build shelves/cupboards in the garage last summer for a bunch of the boxes. When I was building those shelves I kept telling myself "must not buy any more tubes". I've done quite well since then and only fallen off the wagon a couple of times.

I really had to search for those Los Gatos boxes in the picture haha. Those are Sylvania 6sn7w and vt-231 relabeled in the 70s.

Bingo! Pope was a Mullard/Philips brand. I have a clear and older grey glass pair of those Philips 6sn7gt. Absolutely rare I hope šŸ˜

Yea, I wonder why those are so pricey. They're quite readily available but too expensive to afford. They don't even have that lovely warmish British sound. It's actually a brighter tube.

Iā€™ve had a trying day. Got my metal based b36 to match up with my lone one. Promptly tore off the end of the original Marconi box. Sigh. I have to keep reminding myself that these boxes werenā€™t designed to be any more durable than cereal boxes really. Iā€™ve had to throw out so many that have self destructed.

Anyway, time to pair it up with my existing tube. Except I canā€™t find itā€¦ Grrrā€¦. Itā€™s around here somewhere but I havenā€™t used it in over a year or more so it will take some digging. Speaking of digging, brought out one of my b36 tubes that I never opened before. Original box and everything, wait, whatā€™s that? Made in Holland? Groanā€¦

Black base and fully blacked out tube. This doesnā€™t look like any other ā€œMarconiā€ b36 I have seen. Any idea what this actually is? Is it Russian? I thought this was going to be another red/brown base b36. Actually I was counting on it so that it would be a match(ish) to one of my others. Now it looks like I have another pair of orphans. Iā€™ll definitely get another red base, dunno about this one. Getting a matching twin will depend on what people think this actually is and if itā€™s worth getting.

In happier news I have rediscovered the 13d1. I had a great experience with it a year or so ago but when I tried them after that they always sounded flat and dry. Same thing happened earlier this week. I then realized 2 things: this was probably a different pair than I had been using before and other highly regarded tubes have also sounded that way until I let them burn in. So I let them burn in.

Took a good 8-10 hours for the dryness to go away but they are now singing along quite nicely. Slightly forward mids but well balanced and detailed overall. As compared to the 14n7 that I had in before they sound a bit smoother and donā€™t quite have that Sylvania bass but still a great sounding tube when used with the Sylvania 6bg6ga.

I have one 'Marconi' EL41 made by Philips in Sittard, Holland for Marconiphone CO. LTD in Great Britain (B. B. = Before Brexit). They are branded MEL41. I also have one MAZ 41 'Marconi' rectifier with factory code 1m HD1. AZ1 November 1949, Eindhoven
Are there any codes on the bottom around the pins?
