Today I gave my Mullard VR135’s their first spin in my Agartha 2021. Incredible pairing with the Elrogs

‘Homemade’???😳
The 6c5 is a 6j7 run as a triode. I am using some Brimar 8d2 tubes in triode. Those are a 13v version of the ef36 which is the British version of the 6j7. Oh, and they are in the old British 7 pin base. 6c5 tubes aren't that expensive usually but weird voltage pentodes are downright cheap!

Do you know for sure they are Brimar made? I could be wrong, but I thought only Mullard made EF36/37 pentodes.

Well, I assumed they were ef36 because they're British but you may have a point. I guess they are just a 13v version of the 6j7 with a big honking base lol.

Earlier I had written that the 5a/152m seems like a fairly equivalent replacement for a c3m sound-wise. I have been listening to some Sylvania 12av5 in triode as my output tube and with the c3m they sounded very good indeed. I always get a lot of clarity alongside prodigious bass and an extended, airy presentation. On a whim I switched over to the 5a/152m and was surprised at the difference in sound. First off, I had to turn the system down. I forgot they have more gain than the c3m. They seem to have gotten rid of some sort of coloration or congestion I hadn't really noticed till it was gone. The bass is just a little softer but I think it is a good tradeoff. The 5a/152m is 6v and less expensive than the c3m, let alone the 6v c3g so it's also a good deal IMO.

Why do you taunt us?????:confounded:
I actually had a whole post written out about incredible they are, and deleted it because I know how impossible they are to obtain at the moment. I settled on just the photo instead, to minimize the taunting 😉

I figured you must have several of these!!!
They are 6S5S and @Wes S has the entire stock of these minus a pair and quad that others managed to find.

This may make him a seasonal Grinch of sorts with all the good boys (and I suppose some girls) worldwide that have asked Santa for a pair (I need a quad!) under their Christmas tree.
