Thanks Prog, and Fuseboxx for those recommendations. They haven't gone unappreciated. It's good to see stuff one knows and even better to see stuff one doesn't. The latter normally go to my monthly emusic subscription. It's a good and cheap way to check out and get new music.

F*ck Buttons are my current fave post act.  I have loved both their full lengths. Tarot Sport was my favorite album of last year in fact. Also a big Tortoise fan, so there can never be enough love for them.

Fuck Buttons are great.

I also like Slint.

Glad Foals moved away from the more 'Math Rock' style of their first album, though.

Tried Slint again and just cannot get into it. Then tried Tera Melos and love the punky style.

I actually lived with band members from A Minor Forest during college, who were pretty influenced by Slint and got me into them and the whole genre.  Their sound is pretty dark and spare between the mad peaks, I can see why it is not for everyone.

Thanks to you and Fuseboxx for the recommendations, there are some gems there.

Darn, I hate being the last post in on a page, especially when I've placed a lot of content

Anyway:

One of the more beautiful albums I've heard in a while. This dude is just 22-years old and he's scoring some great minimalist music mostly using pianos and orchestral sections. Hard to imagine how this isn't going to end up in my Top 10 for this year and I've loved his other work too, particularly Variations of Static and Found Songs.

Ólafur Arnalds - ...And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness (2010, Modern Classical / Post-Rock)

That's really, really good emotional stuff. It makes it quite hard to imagine that he once was a drummer of a deathmetal band :'). I'm listening to his other albums on spotify now, thanks for the heads-up!

Metalcore*
Those stuff are surprisingly decent/good. Had quite a bit of potential to make it big but leaving the band was probably a good choice for Olafur. Not sure if it fits here but I really love the glitchy sounds of Kashiwa Daisuke and World's End Girlfriend.
