The Pono Player Impressions Thread

Mine never leaves the house. Not because I'm paranoid or anything, just lives in a draw with my ER4S unless using it.

Has quite a chilled out life. I'm not using Pono much recently, though still admire the sound.

I use a Pelican 1030 case to take it back and forth to work.  The gold color even matches.  I use a slice of the Pick and Pluck foam to go inside the top cover.

PERFECT! Thanks!

The material on the outside does seem to be resistant to the normal knock about scuffs and other minor injuries most portable gear will pick up thrown in a pocket.

Doubt the screen could survive as well as the rest of it (seems most effort/funds thankfully went towards the sound).

I find that most people ignore screens on their cell phones, player, etc. until it gets damaged. Otterbox rarely makes cases for stuff like the Pono but I'd at least like to protect it for safe transport.

Don't plan for it to leave home too often but at least (with a decent case) I can store/pack it without worry.

I got the Pono mainly to try out balanced mode and also to use it as a balanced source once my Liquid Carbon arrives. All my other equipment is single-ended.

You'd think Neil would offer us some form of leather case to purchase.

Disappointed.

I carry mine in my pocket all of the time when walking or exercising. The lack of screen protection is the only thing that concerns me.

Do you actually have this case? If so, how is the fit? Any room left in the case? You get the idea.

Yes I do.  If fits like a glove, and the top will fold over and close.  However, if you have anything plugged into it the top has to stay open (maybe a low right-angle plug might work, but my balanced cables stick up quite a ways).  You can push the volumes and center button by feel through the material once you learn where they line up.  Not always perfectly, but enough.  I use the belt loop to carry it on walks.  For the price it's a good deal.

No idea why Pono isn't moving forward on accessories very quickly.  The Pono Community thread talks about that.  It may be that because there aren't that many Ponos out there, and the market is too small for anything from secondary manufacturers.  The word is that cables and hps are coming.  Time will tell.  For $12 this is a good stop-gap.

Thanks man! I have the same cable so my flap would have to stay open as well

Only while actually using it.  For carrying it/storing it it's perfect.   And it's not going to "jump out" while you are walking, it's a pretty tight fit.

Thanks for the details on the case.

Plan to order one shortly and already ordered a hard pelican case (better screen protection and less chance of accidentally pressing buttons when packed).

Soft case would hold the Pono while using it but I need to get my balanced PM-3 cable first and see how far it protrudes. Like you mentioned, I could also use some right angle adapters (already have a few).

Let us know how a balanced connection works with PM-3. I sold them not my cup of tea...too boring. That case does look like an inexpensive solution in between waits.

I didn't care for the PM-3 single-ended or balanced from the AK120 ii or Pono single-ended. Sounded a bit dull and lifeless. Pono balanced was completely different - the PM-3 came to life. It's even good out of the HM-700 via balanced cable.
