Let’s talk about Vortex bass. Yes it doesn’t quite have Serial amounts of sub bass, but there’s a long way between Serial bass and “lack of bass”.

What matters to me is that the Vortex delivers a hugely satisfying and timbrally accurate bass where it’s called for, and this track demonstrates it perfectly (thank you @ian91 - adding this to my bass test playlist) :

My test track for double bass is this one:

A lot of sets can't reproduce the detail in first quarter where the notes hit very low. They just sound fluffy. The Vortex holds tight to the strings the whole way through.

Breathtaking texturing and control all the way to the lowest notes, and I’m glad to see that it hasn’t gone unnoticed by several people in their listening.

Prime example of how, where acoustic instruments are concerned, the Vortex bass will give you that visceral thump and rumble when called upon, and get out of the way when it is not.

Enjoying this so much I’m listening to the rest of the album as well. Next track is a superb showcase of the Vortex’s dynamics, attack and PRaT in general.

This is also a prime example why listening sessions with the Vortex invariably take so long…

Great cable. I bought one… then bought another. Very even handed. To me it replaces all Penon’s other cables as the default rec under $100 unless you for some reason don’t want a fabric sleeve (which btw is surprisingly non-microphonic).

Good match for the PAC buds too. Both sonically and visually. Would be great if these could be made available as some sort of package deal.

I chose the PAC buds as the gift with my recent Penon order, looking forward to trying them! They look similar to the BS1 Official which I really like.

Another one for the Vortex (more acoustic). Make sure to check out his album on ECM, 'Silent Light', and try track four 'Baden', it's another simple track with plenty of texture and detailing:

Just got the PAC buds out for the afternoon, having not used them for a few weeks. I wasn't too keen on their darker take on things but whip those foams off and it really reveals some nice clarity, closer to my preferred balance. Half foams also are quite nice. Also, they're the most comfortable bud shell, rivaling the PK. They sit perfectly in my ear for a pretty decent bass presentation without having to move them around every 10 minutes or so.

Hope you enjoy them :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure from the images that it's the same type of shell as the BS1 which are the most comfortable in my collection of buds. Glad to you've found a new lease of life for yours! I've just brought my trusty old ZX300 out of retirement as an ultra portable source to pair with the Final A4000 out walking etc, fantastic together!

Oof, but do you do anything with that peak round about 2k or 3k? I revisited my PAC buds recently and they were really nice so long as my music didn’t go there.
