After all the Globe talk, I pulled it out of my "not in rotation" drawer and gave it another listen. I now remember why it's there. Not enough "high" energy. H40, even Orb have enough treble for me to enjoy. Globe, not quite enough.

Sounds like I'll enjoy the new FOTM, Vortex.

The Vortex is a keeper for me. Ticks all the boxes and is the smallest, most comfortable IEM I own. As for the Globe, the uppermids give enough life to forgive the lack of emphasised treble.

I have to say though, once you hear how Vortex treats instruments there's so much more spirit to them with that added treble extension.

Word.

And I just remembered that I posted this little wishlist shortly before Vortex launched. Little did I realise at the time Penon had already fulfilled it:

it goes back to why I’d love Penon to pay more attention to treble and upper treble in future. It would not be a treblehead’s treble, but it would come with all the attendant improvements - perceived or otherwise - that it can bring to imaging, layering etc. And hopefully it won’t literally take hundreds of hours to burn in like the Volt’s ESTs.

If nothing else, this explains why I’m so happy with how the Vortex turned out. Can’t wait for more folks to get theirs.

Quick pic before the Vortex gets sucked into my ears again. Some observations:

1) L to R: Serial, Globe, Vortex. Globe is thicc in another way. It has a svelte faceplate but is the thiccest of the 3. Vortex on the other hand just disappears into my ears.

2) Slightly less obvious, but this is the Vortex being the anti-social child in photos. Its magnet is that strong.

First thing I realised when lining her up for a photo - a good 2-3cm of magnetic influence around them lol.

Same, very few IEMs with that much magnetic force.

Be nice to read a comparison between Vortex and Oriolus Isa.
Short answer is that the Vortex is easily more technical but the Isa has more bit more warmth and refinement in the midrange, feels a bit more organic in general.

They (Vortex) happened to arrive this morning unexpectedly and incredibly fast, and have been listening for about half an hour. Very tough to complain! Plus they excel at my added criterion of having an ideal profile to be able to sleep with them in.

Edit: I'm liking the highs are nice and present without sizzling (as I've noticed with other DLC technology offerings)
