Looks pretty creative to me... I can't remember Patrick ever building anything, just deconstructing and reassembling things.

It looks like the Audiogon guy set out to mimic those uber-expensive, uber-heavy turntables (see: Transrotor Artus and Clearaudio Statement) using fairly modest equipment and a lot of DIY solutions. I particularly enjoyed the bungee cord suspension system.
