. Using a non-USB input like optical resolves any issues for me and that's what I do on my RME dac and would probably also work fine with the TAZ

First hand experience, a denafrips iris optical output absolutely turbocharged and breathed new life into my TAZ. The difference was not subtle.

You can plug them into whatever you have that takes RCA input. I run mine into a Pendant, a tube amp. Works just like any other source.

Thanks! Helps a lot. I tried out the cayin n8ii at e-earphone in tokyo with my ier-z1r and am definitely reminiscent about the tube sound. Might pick up a wooaudio firefly gen 1 amp to pair with my taz.

Even though the TA-ZH1ES doesn’t measure transparently, I was able to use it to ABX 16/16 times the SACD vs CD layer of something that has a PK Metric of almost -90 dB. This shows how good the Sony is.

(Though to be fair, another person with an E-MU 0204 was able to detect the differences too.)

Might be illegal as an audiophile. Added an iFi Zen Can to my set up with the tazzy. IER-Z1R balanced off the tazzy for critical listening. Zen Can X-bass for that extra dirty slam/fun.

Yes, that boost the XBass provides is so satisfying.

I finally got a 3.5mm/RCA to connect my Gryphon for movies (bluetooth). I only did a quick A/B for now with some 'audiophile' YouTube tracks but I find the Gryphon is outstanding by itself.

I am using the TAZH1ES primarily as a DAC for music listening in my home system using the preouts into my preamp. The BEST sounding streamer I have tried, by far, is my Onkyo DP-X1 DAP via the walkman in port. Has anyone compared this player to the Sony WM1AM2? I can't imagine the sound being much better than what I am getting now but thought I would ask. If you have a suggestion for another streamer (it doesn't have to be a DAP, I have a rack for full size components) let me know. I have already tried a Bluesound Node, the Sony UHPH1 CD/SACD player, and the Paradigm PW Link streamers. Thanks
