Did anyone compare it with Focal's Utopia? If so, what are the differences?

I'm curious about that comparison too, but the Sony isn't going to be available till November or December, and the Utopia is just now starting to ship.  We won't get that till Xmas...

"My experience with the beautiful MDR-Z1R wasn’t really positive. It sounded very bassy and muffled overal and I can’t believe a new flagship would sounds like this. So probably someone did something wrong there."

On facebook, he said not to read too much into his early impressions.

For me, I wouldn't panic.  Just read, take it as more info, and continue researching. Also, please let me know about the impressions, so that I can link to it and hopefully get us moving faster towards a baseline.  Thanks a lot guys.

Interesting cable connectors, being part of the gimbal rather than the driver cups.  Any advantages or disadvantages?

i wonder how many units of both the new dap and cans will actually sell?
while i think it's great that Sony is upping their game and coming out with better sounding products,
these prices are out of reach for many.

read an article by Darko on this same issue (price vs sales)  about Audeze $$$ cans:
that they couldn't rely on their high end gear to sustain them
...hence the popularity of the sine portable cans:
offered great sound for a decent price.

Sony's new high-end audio range is nuts (hands-on)

trickle down may not only be an economic concept but a technology one as well. Sony knows that the battle at the top trickles down to the bottom. Ignore each end at your own peril.
