Does anyone have any opinions on these two dongles vs KA17, Onix, RU7, and DC-Elite? Especially when pertaining to noise floor and detail. thank you!
based on my ears:
- High noise floor (especially 4.4 port and desktop mode) and excellent details and hifi sound -> KA17
- Low noise floor and excellent details and hifi sound -> DC elite
- Low noise floor and excellent details and analog sound -> RU7
- High noise floor (especially 4.4 port) and good enough details and analog sound -> Onix Alpha XI1

Thanks a lot! I have both the KA17 and the Onix as well, and I thought both don’t really have a dark background… I’m glad you echo my feelings on the matter. Do you know of another dongle DAC that shares the low noise floor of the DC Elite? I feel like that’s my priority in DACs.

I would compare your choices with the power output.... not all but some will have a low noise floor because they don't put out high power.... I would think a high power with low noise floor would be a better choice than a low power with low noise floor.... hope this makes sense...

So I have the M15i and like it quite a bit. I find it super analytical but warm at the same time. The bass is about perfect. I think the mids are slightly warm but also a little thin on male vocals. The treble seems about perfect but maybe somewhere in the upper mids I am getting a little brightness. I can't pinpoint it but I think what I am hearing is a little bit of ESS glare / sheen..... Heard it with other ESS dacs. I have grown fond of the CS43198 dac dongles so maybe that is why I hear the ESS the way it is. So for anyone who has heard it, does the DC Elite offer the same levels of detail as the M15i but without any of the ESS sound I am hearing.

My advice would be to go for the M15c, with a CS43198 DAC. Personally I think it’s the best dongle Questyle have out out, and strangely it’s their cheapest.

I had the DC Elite, and while it’s staging and bass are impressive for such a small device, it draws so much power from the phone that it kind of makes use as an actual portable device for use with your phone a problem. There’s plenty of DC Elite fans but it just didn’t feel like a home run for me.

Thanks... It does have some hype around it. I think I might return the M15i and see what the M18i is or go for the M15c

M15c=cirrus
M15i=ess
Same spec?
Yeah the specs on their website are all the same except for the 4.4mm output, which according to the spec is more powerful on the 15c. I wrote in the USB-c dongle thread that I don’t know what to make of that though as it seems like it should be the same. On my phone volume slider I use the same volume for both, so it seems like the power output is equal. A critic might tell me the position on the volume only indicates gain not max power output, but I do find the spec difference for the 4.4mm confusing.
