How does this affect the bass?  I mean, it should make sound brighter (upper mids/lower treble), but how about the bass?

 
The bass quantity remains same but it becomes faster and gain more detail and clarity. Upper mids/lower treble is not affected by filter removal. There is no sibilance even without filters. I'm using mine w/o filters for almost 3 months and I didn't have any problems yet. You can try and share your impressions in the thread. I will be much appreciated if you do that.

I 'pre-ordered' my pair on the 16th, it shipped the 18th, it officially left Singapore on the 21st, it reached Canada on the 23rd, and it's expected to be delivered to me by Monday (the 29th).

Upgraded cable is an add on accessory, not a part of a new batch VSD3/3S.  I mentioned in another thread, VSD3/3S comes with OFC cable.  This one is silver-plated OFC upgrade.

I use the Sony hybrids on my VSD3. They are PERFECT. No lie.

I should check hybrids for comfort, my canals are just ******** when it comes to that.
