The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Oct 15, 2021 at 10:10 PM Post #2,372 of 2,621
These headphones are very revealing to the source, I wouldn't be surprised if people decided they didn't like them unknowingly because of how their gear sounded. All sources I have tried so far changed the sound in a pretty dramatic way like I haven't heard before.
Don't forget the recording. The mixing, mastering and overall production of various recordings is all over the map.
I think that will affect what one hears more than the gear.

Hello
I thinking of new headphones for games/movies and music.

Maybe someone tell me difference between these headphones. Because it’s my short list.
-Hd650s
-pc38x
-fidelio x2HR
All these headphones do well with games/movies and music, do you have a stand alone Microphone? And do you need/want an open or closed set?

What's games do you play, CSGO, Apex, Warzone or more single player games? And what is your budget my friend?

One more to add to your list, Epos H6 Pro, they come in open and closed variants! Detachable microphone and the sound was collaborated with Epos and Sennheiser (similar to PC38x).

Out of the ones you've listed, I would go the HD560s all day long!

finally I've purchased a good hd560s, at the third attempt. the new fantasia balanced cable is arriving, and a hidzs s9 pro as well.I hope that the new fiio LT-LT1 usb-c to lightning cable will transfer the audio flawlessly as fiio product ever did. will that combo be good?

Definitely good components you are using! And running the HD560S balanced is definitely a good idea. Also the S9 Pro has enough driving power for them.

Just hope it will match together and not be too bright. I know that the HD560s are ideally driven on a slightly darker, possibly even smoother, source. Several people report good results for tube amps.

The Hidizs sound is usually pretty good, and it’s usually very neutral. I don’t know the S9 Pro, though. Would have to read reviews on sound quality. Hopefully it leans towards the warmer side.

On hint straightaway: give the HD560s some hours of burn-in. In my case treble was pretty harsh at first.

coming from the ATH-R70X and HD600, I'm pretty happy with the treble of the hd560s. The only hp that's unbearable for me in that regard is the dt1990. The s9 pro is the most accurate dongle in the market. even if it'll be not so warm, I will be pretty happy. These headphones are a dream come true. A cheap, tonally correct model with good technicalities, almost an impossible mission. after 136 models owned, these are the sweet spot.

I'm done. I don't like the more expensive sub 1000 euro costing models I tried at the shops around the world, and I can't spend more than 500. so for me it is an happy ending
I had some very powerful amplifier, but the difference with the s9 pro or even a fiio btr5 in balanced mode is too little with headphone so easy to drive.

Personally, these are my favourite setup for my HD560s...

Super transparency of the Sp200 coupled with some old Vintage Theta DAC's......HEAVEN!

@Evshrug -Can ya ask Sennheiser if they have any more goodies in the works, a long the lines of a closed-back version of the HD560s?! - Remember the old HD630VB? :D
Forgot to “post” my reply. Basically, I could ask, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you 😂 And when I do find out about models coming in advance, it’s torture because I have to wait a long time… and some things had a general release month but were delayed due to Covid (like the IE 300 and IE 900)! So, insider knowledge is a blessing but also a curse.

Also… nice audio stacks, that’s some serious gear! I used to own a Theta DAC myself, it was awesome but only had Coax input. Eventually, I sold it because my computer, game console, streamer (TV and movies), tablet, and smartphone all used optical or USB outputs, and my Raspberry Pi just wasn’t enough to be a bridge for all those sources.

It's apparently exactly the same as the 560s, just slightly different aesthetic and a coiled cable. Sort of a weird model.

I got excited at first and thought it was a closed back 560s equivalent

Looks to be a rival to the new Beyerdynamic Pro Line, I'm excited...thanks for sharing this!

Personally love the studio coiled cable, hopefully they sell the cable separately!

New HD400 PRO 250usd

This is one of those things where I don’t know what to say, lol! But yeah, it looks like they went for a completely black aesthetic and coiled cable.

I still use my HD 560S from time to time, I enjoy how “flat” and balanced the signature is. Not a bad choice for WFH mixing music.

Hello,

I am considering to buy these phones. I will mostly use them for classical music listening. For now, I only have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop, so amplification is mediocre at best. I will have to postpone buying a dedicated amp.

My question is: adding an amp to these will indeed greatly benefit the perceived sound quality, or only "sort of"? Notice that I don't listen too loud, so volume is not an issue.

I am aware that I may appear as a totally novice in the field of headphone (amplification), and it's quite true: I only listened 3-4 years ago to a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro for about 15 minutes, and that concludes my audiophile headphone listening experience (other than that I had a pair of Sennheiser PC-350, but that was obviously only for video games).

Thank you.

Hey alecsus,
The HD 560S is an evolution and improvement on your old PC350, minus the mic and with a more “reference” tuning that balances lows, mids, and high pitched sounds to mostly equal prominence (many mainstream products emphasize lows and highs, and so does the DT 770, this headphone may seem a bit different to you). If you found the PC350 physically comfortable, the HD 560S will feel like a refinement of familiar ergonomics.

For amping, the HD 560S should give you about the maximum possible quality you can get directly out of your laptops headphone jack. Headphone has very high sensitivity, so you won’t have volume issues, and the moderate ohm impedance of the Headphone means that it will resist some background hiss and dampening issues. However, a laptop does leave a little bit to be desired when it comes to performance… just like an integrated graphics card vs a discrete graphics card. The audio parts on your laptop may have cost the manufacturer less than a dollar, and even an Apple dongle for a smart phone will probably sound better. The HD 560 S would scale up with higher quality amps to have a better sense of depth and separation of distance, better clarity, tighter bass, and you might find other qualities that make the sound more “musical” and fun. Of course, there are other features like spatial audio and headphone surround processing that you can add to bring the sound to be more “speaker-like” or true to life.

I think you would happily enjoy them straight out of your laptop, but just FYI I also enjoy using them with my turntable and $799 amp (it’s not the ONLY headphone I use with that amp, and I also use it with speakers, but I hope you understand what I mean when I say the headphone still has an appeal even in a higher end system).

A friend of mine has the 560S paired with an iFi Zen and they're fantastic. For the price, I'm convinced there is no more capable combination, especially if you are after a neutral tuning. As a first pair of headphones, that's absolutely ideal as it will help you determine where you like a little more or a little less presence in the frequency response. And, the Zen has a lovely bass boost that gives that extra oomph in times of need.

A better amp can help, but it's more about the cleanliness of the signal than the amount of power on tap. The 560S does scale some, but you won't need to spend much to get the most out of them. They are not difficult to power or match with an amp, nor will they deliver the resolution and clarity of something like an 800S. However, they do give you a good taste of that 800S flavor.
