The New Chord Quartet M Scaler Discussion Thread

Thanks ,let's await Rob's response to clarify things. One reason I asked was partly because the recordings Rob uploaded here were made with simple two mics Blumlein tech. I know that one of the labels I was at sessions with, BIS was limited to 24/44.1 for some years for software limitations reasons with multimic'ing projects. But they later upgraded to 24/96 for large scale symphonic recordings and also made some 24/192 recordings where fewer mics were used.
And others like Morten Lindberg of 2L DXD in Surround, and Jared Sacks of Channel Classics also recorded more recently both DSD 256 and DXD.

The tools that the vast majority of studios actually use are limited to 192kHz.

Do you have a reference for that research please?

Yes take a look at the bottom of this slide:

@Rob Watts
Since there doesn’t seem to be a USB output on the Quartet, is it possible for a third party to create a dual-BNC to USB converter or is the full signal meant to be proprietary and exclusive to Chord DACs? I recall mention of the signal being dual-AES with a flag for left/right or something along those lines, but I can’t recall exactly.

Hmm, are you sure that research apparently made on mammalian brains of "decapitated gerbils", provides evidence these results, also apply to us humans and our timing resolving capacity? Evolution related ? "Fight or flight"? There are lots of sounds in Nature that escape our hearing ,but matter a lot to other animals.
Regarding the 24/192 limitation that is as you state, unfortunately a fact especially in studios recording the mass genres synthetic popular music where SQ is rarely much of a priority anyway. But why does that, stop YOU from recording at higher sampling rates with simple Blumlein 2 mics?
I also make a clear distinction between the words subjective and objective,defining objective as something that applies to and holds true for more than one individual, and subjective as more of a psychological more limited personal experience, that makes me think of the proverb:
"Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder".
Could you please clarify what you mean by important subjective consequences here?

Meanwhile regarding gerbils and "entirely subjectively" I had one of those jump into my VW campervan in Kenya many years ago. Not an ideal pet,mostly active at night gnawing on various foodboxes keeping us awake.But he could twist his ears and we named him Cuthbert until we finally managed to evict him from our mobile home without decapitating him.

Pre-digital era with music played back and my own recordings made on a SONY TCD-5 Cassette Player/ Recorder. "In the Field Swedish Radio Broadcast Standard" in those days.
Cheers CC
