The New Chord Quartet M Scaler Discussion Thread

May 15, 2025 at 8:40 AM Post #436 of 444
It's been a year since we've had any news on the Chord Quartet and Chord has been awfully quiet on this product since Munich Hi-End last year where they debuted it.

With Munich Hi-End now actively underway again I'm curious if the Chord folks are perusing this board at all still - especially Rob - and if so, could they update us on the status of the Quartet? As far as I can tell a new phonostage, not the Quartet, is the focal point for Chord at this year's show.

As it is I am an owner of both the M-Scaler and Dave and find them to be exquisite and invaluable as part of my chain, so I am feverishly awaiting the Quartet's release to see if they can level up the digital domain even more!

Had a nice chat with Rob Watts at High end Munich on Friday. The scaler is planned to work on all current chord dacs. And he is hoping/expecting it will be ready the end of the year. @Rob Watts please correct me if I’m wrong😉

So hope and fingers crossed 🤞🏼it will be ready by then, I’m quite curious about it. Better good than rushed I always say, so it will be ready when it is done😉

I love my tt2+mscaler combo, getting an even better sound would be amazing.

Lol will my Xmas tree have somethin under it this year 😄 (my wife unexpectedly gave my current scaler for Xmas).

No, i expect after release it probably has a delivery time of at least 6 months due to demand by the Hifi crowd with deep pockets. And im not buying without hearing it first on my battery powered Dave vs my optic connected scaler

Learned today when talking with the dealer I have bought all of my Chord Electronics gear from over the years that they will cease being a dealer for the company next month. The reason being that new ultra high end DACs/scalers to go with the company’s high end (Ultra) amplifiers are taking too long to be developed while other companies are moving forward.

We'll have to see what progress they make......the other companies.

Keeping an eye on this Q Scaler. I think I've narrowed down my flagship DAC for headphones to the following:

1. DAVE + Quartet (most expensive, no I2S but has great headphone output)
2. Rockna Wavedream Reference Signature (has I2S and Rockna has great synergy with my amp)
3. Grimm MU2 (a lot more affordable with built in Roon Server, but no I2S)
4. Bricasti M21 + Bricasti SACD player (slightly more expensive than Rockna)

I really love Chord sound, Hugo2Go has consistently been a reference. Curious how this turns out.

Grimm mu2 sounds amazing, agree… one thing though, why I would never buy it, a 17000 euro streamer beeing dependant of a third party service they don’t own or control themselves, beeing useless without is a no no for me. You can’t use smb shares, no dlna, nothing.
