Terry Gilliam: "For everyone lost in the endlessly multiplicating realities of the modern world, remember: Philip K. Dick got there first."

Dick was a genius; a lot of good sci-fi film is based on his work; Blade runner is a big favourite.

I am die-hard sci-fi fan; primarily books but secondarily films, too.
My current favorite is China Mieville and I have read most all of the classics including the better translations of Stanislaw Lem’s works. As far as fantasy, I am a big fan of Haruki Murakami, although his works are not easy to categorize. He is also a huge fan of audio and friends and I are trying to assemble audio gear he likes. We did the same for the Bosch tv show. Ohm speakers, McIntosh tube gear, I think a Marantz turntable and West coast jazz.🤪

Both are fantastic ! Kraken and Kiberiada are my favourites.

PAGE 20!! Brilliant! Thanks for the continued support, but this will be the last acknowledgement of landmark pages until 500 or 1,000?! Keep it coming!!

Todays Saturday daily trio : Tangzu Legend (Empress), Softears Volume S, and AFUL Explorer. All different flavors from one another, but all providing most excellent sonics.

Most of my listening from this moment forth will be with the Cayin N3 Ultra. The B4-X & Tenore going back in the box.

I seem to be stuck on TOOBY goodness? Hmm...yeah, the Nunchaku would definitely nod in agreement if it could. LOL Giving that source a rest today though.

Want some darker leaning Christian music? Saint - Warriors of the Son (1986). Judas Priest inspired Christian metal, with a bit of a darker edge than Stryper or Holy Soldier. Even more so than bloodgood. One of my favorite metal albums of the 80's. Period. Production is raw, and bassy, but still fun.

yea... metal just isn't my genre... A COUPLE of songs here and there are ok, but in general, I just don't jive with the sound, especially of the intense vocals.
I really don't know, because I didn't try the Estrealla.
1739052726350.png

They both have different tuning approaches. if you want to try something which is more on the "meta" tuning, then the SLIIVO SL41 might be better. the Estrella looks like more of a V-SHAPE tuning.
I also wanted to order the Estrella, but it is double the price of the Sliivo SL41, and Mark from super reviewed mentioned that it has driver flex. I wouldn't accept that on 300$ IEM.

so my personal opinion that is that the Sliivo SL41 is a safer choice. but it is up to you, you might prefer the Estrella.

If you are not in a hurry, you might want to wait for the SLA8, which is 1DD 8BA that should be the better version of the SL41 (we can't really know without reviews), it will be out in the end of march. and you already have more releases of Myer such as the CKLVX CK2V which some reviewers have already recieved, and should be having reviews soon so we can see what it is worth.

I'll sit tight for now lol. Been pretty good at holding back IEM purchases. I gotta know though... Is driver flex that little crinkly noise some IEMs make when you put them in your ear? If so, how does that affect the sound? I don't notice anything else once they're seated properly, so I'm not sure why people are making it sound like a real issue. Some KZ sets do it, the CHEAPO QKZ set do it badly [NOT, however, the ZXN, which is a fantastic set].

I'm seriously starting to panic and install FOMO for the Lime Ears! Can't wait to demo the Terra's, but since Maris started showing up and as far as I understood they're the TOTL in the series and look like THAT, I'm basically screwed!
If their sound matches or surpasses the looks...I think I'm just about sold...come on even THE CABLE looks so tasty - @He_Is_Emil WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US?!?
Really looking forward to specs, pricing and listing!

First I still gotta demo the Terra's, looking forward for the Tour to reach me, it's going to actually be my first one...how's that for firsts?
Hah, just for the record, if it hadn't been for Head-Fi popping up on Google search when I typed "How to make custom IEMs" back in 2012 (there was a specific thread about it), I would have just gone about my day and maybe even stayed at my rather normal 9-to-5 job (nah, probably not).
But it was there.
I clicked.
And I just had to start doing things.
So I'm not sure who did what to whom. 😅
But now we're now we're all here, and things seem to be going pretty well! :)

You got the two IEMs I've spent the last two days of my musical time listening to (Dita Project M + Dunu Brain Dance). Had a blast with both. As for are IEM's headphones, well, I call them headphones to my family and friends. Either "headphones" or "earbuds", because if I called them in ear monitors, or earphones, they might give me confused side eye, because they might think I wear hearing aids? LOL

Can't wait to try those two Lime Ears at CanJam SoCal, along with the MacBeth, Clara, Maven II, and the Enigma. Also since I bought the Tangzu Legend, I'm curious to hear the Astrolith, to see how they're better, even though they use the same driver type and size, for $1,900 cheaper?
Oh, definitely! Even before that, I'll try to put some on tour(s), so hopefully you won't have to wait until September! 🤞

Technically, IEM is a type of “earphones”, which are shortened from “ear-fitting headphones”. So yeah, IEMs are headphones 🤭
I agree, and since ears are part of the head, all earphones are also headphones (but not all headphones are earphones).

My oh my, Philip is my all-time favorite! I think I read everything I could from him in high school, with "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch" being my top choice. As for the film adaptations, "A Scanner Darkly" still gives me chills when I think about it. Especially the final scene, closed by "Black Swan" by Thom Yorke being like cherry on this weird cake. Absolutely mind-blowing.

As best I can tell the audio category applies so I share what I can. I design and build amplifiers (mostly headphone) as well as having experience with most audio gear. I like gear to sound good as well as appealing to other senses. :beerchug: Oh and I spent about 17 years working with custom cables and my people built all kinds of them including full sized headphone and IEM so I may have a little knowledge there as well. For me HIFI can mean anything from the source all the way to the transducers.

It shouldn't really affect the sound, once you get a fit with them it is gone, but you know, you spend good money to not have that... it could be avoided.
on KZ it is acceptable, they are cheap. but when I spend 100-200$+ on an IEM, I don't expect that, this is something that can be avoided on first place. this is what I think at least.

Yes. That's driver flex. Also, if it's not something that happens once seated, then it's not much of a problem, but if it's something that repeats itself, over and over, and you use the IEMs often, it can end up damaging the driver, and kaputting it.

I have tried, but unfortunately, it's looking slim for a second Anni unit.

Apostle EU should be starting within the next two weeks.
Don't forget to include us in the tour of Apostle, if not the 1st take, perhaps the 2nd? If possible of course, seems like some of us joined the "party" late

I'd say let's take it 1 milestone at a time, so perhaps the next ones should be Pages 100, 250...and then 1/2 kilobuck page, kilobuck page...etc!

Really nice origin story you've got there Emil and nice of you to share it with us :beerchug:
Passionate people will always build great things, really looking forward for the Terra and then also learning more about it's 2 siblings from the same family tree...something tells me that the potential to become a sticky one is imense :L3000:

The Three Amigos.
I just wish the Legend's bass was as good as the Wu Zetian. It's more reminiscent of the KZ PR2 or the S12, which are more linear (very similar to the KZ ZA12 bass). Very resolving and note incisive, with good rumble, but lacking mid bass energy and good punch.

That Legend set looks so classy and artistic I would have surely PTT if people hadn't reported early about the bass being lighter. If you look in my "culled" section in my signature, most of the bass-light IEMs I have I eventually end up parting with.

EDIT: Here's some graphs for this : [HIDE all the options I selected except TFZ T2 Pro, S12, PR2]
The T2 looks like it would have very little bass, much less than the S12 and PR2. But in reality, it has JUST, just enough bass thump to get my head bopping on bassy tracks, and the bass is CLEAN all the way down to the sub-bass. Have not heard PR2 or S12 original, but I can't imagine they sound weak in the bass [I might be wrong? Graphs aren't always king haha.] I reckon the T2 Pro has a forward-mounted DD like the Libra X.

for further observations on that graph selection, Hide the above three [if you want] and add in the EDX Ultra, PA02, Zetian wu, and TD19. Of those 4, I have heard the Wu and PA02. So based on this, the Pula has the lease-recessed mids [by a SMALL margin,] but since the Zetian Wu and PA02 are among my FAVORITE sets, the EDX Ultra and TD19 would also be good picks for me, with MAYBE the preference given to the EDX ultra because of the slightly more elevated highs?
I just thought it was interesting how close those 4 graphs were. Even the PR2 isn't that far off, but a tad less bassy maybe.

EDIT 2: forgot to link the graphs mentioned LOL. Will fix tomorrow

The faceplate is truly gorgeous. Work of art. but bassy it is not. As I stated before, the Wu is bassier than this one.

I still have yet to try the Terra even though you, Jaytiss, and Wayne all raved about it. Hopefully I can get a loaner later on to review it. Definitely want to try any of Emil's creations!

Indeed, it's just an acquired taste/flavor that someone must be after in order to love the way Anni 23 sounds.
Not saying I might not love it, but from the looks of it may be better for me to look elsewhere.
Recessed mids and softer bass are not my thing...I'm actually looking into having the mids represented properly and not tucked or lacking...same goes for bass, if there is a need for it, let it be in all of its glory, but not artificially enhance it and make it muddy.

I can see it performing very well for certain genres. For example, Standards would probably do well, because in that case we actually want a dreamy and romantic presentation, and not something too heavy. So for Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and even Laufey, it'd probably be great. And Jobim too now that I think about it.

Not sure if that cable swap would have provided you with a 360 degree different experience.

:joy: I don't think any cable can possibly do that.

Two weeks - so stoked to meet everyone and put faces to names. This community is so amazing, and welcoming, and has been a great experience.

I'm seeing excitement build in various chats everywhere. :relaxed: It's been three months since the last domestic CanJam, I think everybody is ready.

I have tried, but unfortunately, it's looking slim for a second Anni unit.

Aww boo, but I can understand that given how long they take to make. Oh well.
