I still have yet to try the Terra even though you, Jaytiss, and Wayne all raved about it. Hopefully I can get a loaner later on to review it. Definitely want to try an of Emil's creations!
yes, you do need to get an audition with them. They are fantastic. I especially liked how natural they sound and the spaciousness of the stage (without BCD!!).

Rediscovered some Technical/Brutal Death Metal bands from early 2000's, Vital Remains.

Vital Remains is one the few bands that Glen Benton ever fronted aside from his own band. He is well-known in the metal scene as the frontman and the bassist of the Death metal band from Florida, Deicide.

I'm enjoying to listen some of their tracks right now while waiting for my lunch.

Saw Vital Remains live years ago. The drummer for Incantation was in VR (Kyle Severn), and we got the hook up that way (through Century Media) in 2000 I think it was? Cool hang. Kyle was always a cool dude. Pre-Glen Benton involvement though.

@o0genesis0o The R3 II 2022 saber is off the table. Caught a couple videos, and indeed, the description of the sound signature and the features are pretty much identical to the AP80 pro X. So looking into the DX180.

Actually @Leonarfd says that the DCE is better than the DX180, so the DCE + DX170 might make more sense to keep vs spending on the DX180, but I can get a crazy good deal on a DX180 with bonus points, so it might still be on the table due to the price? Man, real world decisions LOL

@FreeWheelinAudioLuv2
Yeah, Glen Benton was introduced as the new vocalist in their Dechristianize album. Dave Suzuki was the drummer at that time too.

Softears Volume S > Sony NW-A25 (untethered).

Phi-Psonics - Octava (2023). Introspective and meditative, with flourishes of downtempo, classical, and contemporary jazz, this is a great album for chillaxin'. The combo synergy between the Volume S and the NW-A25 is simply amazing. Extremely high quality/high performance from a combo that costs less than $500.00 between them, and no amplification, due to the A-25 being one of the more powerful Sony DAPs.

I have been giving the KZ Sonata a workout with my AP80 Pro X/Celest CD20. It has really come to life, these pieces impressed me greatly:

Wow... what a stunning sound for the 70s! I almost never listen to music from that era, but this is gold. I downloaded the whole album, although I think this song is probably the best. How did the Sonata handle the bass on this song? I'm listening on the Castor Pro Bass and Vader Balanced, both of which have obviously impressive midbass thump. I sold my AS24, but still would pick up an all-BA set again if it had decently thumpy bass. I heard good things as well about the AS10 Pro...

Year of the Cat is an amazing album. Superb production by Alan Parsons (Dark Side of the Moon). Check out "On the Border" and "Midas Shadow", both excellent tracks, the bass comes over wonderfully on the Sonata. If you like this album you'll like his "Time Passages" as well. The title track and "Almost Lucy" are wonderful.

Has anyone ordered from MTMT Audio? They got half my order wrong and are ghosting me via email. I guess I'm just cutting losses now.

In the end, it might be an interesting thing to go for a DAP, because it will keep you connected to the community, especially if in a couple of years you're going to have to get a new one/replace it/update it. Adds to the itch, no? :L3000:

Read my mind perfectly :)

But seriously, I’ve been seriously short of time and energy so I’ve been less present around headfi lately, and being this satisfied with my collection atm has taken the edge off wanting to try as many things - or at least raised the bar in terms of what I can make time for, if you get my drift.

Fuga..NU! (where NU mean NO in my country's language) :dt880smile:
Have briefly Googled it the first time I came to the name...saw to $10k and moved on easily :)))

Just saying, I hope I never come across a Fugaku listing for $10k. It’s not something I would even countenance buying based on my current income and circumstances but at the same time it would be quite a bargain considering the actual RRP…

The first album is very interesting... great background music for working or browsing. Just enough happening to keep it interesting.

Yep - and also a good album for evaluating soundstage, imaging, transients, that sort of thing :) Some of the percussion is just unreal.

The second album was also an instant-download. Stunning. On the Castor Pro Bass, the ... bass... is very in-your-face and gives your eardrums a real punch.
And I've already "discovered" the third song before on this site. Also fire!

Love Nenad Vasilić’s stuff. When I kvetch about an IEM’s timbre or handling of bass resonance or texture, chances are that I’ve tried it on some of his tracks. This one isn’t on Bandcamp yet but one that I’ve been listening to even more lately:

Edit: fixed the Apple Music embed. I could’ve sworn we used to be able to just drop the URL in here. And here’s a YouTube one as well for good measure.

I was giving my AP80 Pro X a bit of a spin yesterday. It had been awhile since I listened untethered. Usually I use it with a dongle dac as a transport, but not yesterday. I was looking into getting the Hiby R3 II 2020, but decided against it, since reviews describe it the same as the AP80 Pro X, and I already have it.

AS10 Pro is definitely mid bass punchy, and actually has good dynamics for a BA, but the pressure can be off-putting, and I'd go with the Zenith as an upgrade to the Vader or the Castor? Or wait for the Decet! 5 DD!!

I've heard this seller be mentioned many times, but I've never ordered directly myself.

A little teaser for my review dropping tomorrow 😁. I was pretty lukewarm on it initially but this one grew on me! Will be sending it off on a review tour soon as well.
