The most overused expressions on Head-Fi
May 17, 2011 at 5:44 PM Post #31 of 228
"What you didn't like [insert person's favourite phone here]? What amp/source/cable/listening chair/hair gel were you using?"

Followed by -

"Well I'm not surprised you didn't like them, these are highly revealing headphones and will show up your bad gear"

(It's always anything but the headphone's fault when someone doesn't like it...)

"Beats/Bose/Skullcandy are bad/overrated/overpriced, I didn't like them."

And then the less common, but still abundant:

"Beats/Bose are not bad/overpriced, I liked them."

A neverending cycle. We all claim to hate Beats, yet I swear I see a new thread on them every week.

"From what I've read..."

This ^ definitely - often accompanied by "I recommend ......."

The part missing though (there by inference I guess) is that they haven't actually heard (or even demoed)  the can being discussed.

That's why I always check sigs / profiles to see how many cans the recommender/poster has actually heard.

"IMO"

"Cables don't make any difference"

"It's your source"

"Try burning in"

"Cables make a difference"

"I'm looking for a headphone with plenty of bass for under $10"

I love how all of these are so negative, haha. But still head-fi is a great place to be around :)

What's so negative about "lush mids" or "good PRaT"? :D

But yup- you have to laugh at yourself once in a while. :p
