I've been listing to Frogg Cafe's "Bateless Edge" from 2010 a lot recently.  Really good stuff with some unique instrumentation (trombone, fluglehorn, cello).  You can purchase it from their label online in Apple Lossless format for only $6.99 - no artwork or liner notes though.

Myrath may be my favorite new discovery. Anybody that likes Symphony X or Kamelot needs to try this band out. Their latest release titled Tales of the Sands is epic.

Interesting fact about the album: The titles were taken from a website devoted to transcriptions of cockpit/cabin recordings of plane crashes.

Hi All,

Great thread and as my hobby is finding new music to listen to, I'll be checking out the suggestions here that I havent already heard.

My suggestions to start with are:

Magenta - "Metamorphosis" and "Live at the Real World Studios" - their songs played acoustically with a 4 piece string section
Pineapple Thief - my current play is "Someone here is missing"
Amplifier - "Octopus"
Crippled Black Phoenix - "i, vigilante"
Astra - "The Weirding"
Phideaux - "Doomsday Afternoon"

Cheers

Good choice, that album is amazing.

Really getting into Cloud Cult, described as indie experimental and they leap and mix genres with abandon making some very catchy and interesting sounds

PS - Amplifier and Octopus is a superb album.
