The MODDED Sennheiser HD 580 appreciation thread.

I wish I could keep every pair I've had, but I normally have to trade/sell to try new pairs. Someday I'll get another HD600. Maybe when I hit the lottery that I don't play. Ha but yes, they're all good headphones. I have yet to try any Grados though.

Never, I repeat never, get rid of your modded HD580!  It's perfection with the BeyerDynamic headband and the HD650 cable (or cardas, but the 650 cable is much more duarable).  I'm over 10,000 hours and to the point that I have a dent in my skull from them.  I'll never release them until I die!

Hi
I am ordering the HD 580s, but want to put a HE60 headband pad on it (mainly for aesthetics).Does anyone know whether the one here: http://www.custom-cable.co.uk/sennheiser-he60-foam-headband-pad.html  is foam with a leather/ pleather cover (as on original HE60), or just foam. If it is just foam, is there anywhere I can get a pleather/ leather pad except for from Sennheiser, where it is extremely expensive? Also, is it worth upgrading from HD600 grills to HD650 grills? (I have a new cable)

Thanks
Chris

If you don't mind a little DIY, this looks like a pretty easy way to get a classy leather headband http://www.head-fi.org/t/711411/sennheiser-headband-pad-mod

Re the grills, The 600 and 650 grills LOOK identical.. unless there is something different about them that isn't visually apparent(type of plastic, different resonance, different metal in the mesh? (all doubtful, just playing devils advocate)). Check out Brooko's comparo thread here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/740942/comparison-review-part-deux-a-tale-of-two-sennheisers-hd600-vs-hd650

Hey everyone, been loving my HD580s since I got them back in 2008. Even though I always babied them, the headband finally snapped in half.

I considered doing a DIY fix, but don't want a "ghetto" look, I want them to look nice.

Calling Sennheiser parts, they offered me the HD600 headband (part no 059570) for $65, a much better deal than the HD650 headband at $110. HD580 headband is out of production / stock and is not available anywhere.

My concern now is, with the mis-matched "marble" HD600 headband on the HD580 driver housing, combined with the ugly HD580, will make these probably the ugliest set of Sennheiser HD580 / 600 / 650 out there, LOL.

So I wanted to get the HD600 / 650 grills to make them look at least presentable, but they are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!!! I remember when they were all over ebay and available on Sennheiser parts website, but now I can't seem to find them.

Any suggestions what I can do to make them look a little better?

Thanks!

IIRC there was a pair of HD600 grilles just 2-3 weeks ago on the BST board.

I would do this mod and black out the HD580 grille with semi-gloss or matte black.  That will effectively black out everything but the faux marble headband.

Not sure if the DT880/770/990 snap around headband fits around the senns.  Its been eons since I owned a DT770.  I could have sworn Ive seen others do this with their senns.  I think that will cover up most of the offending marble.

So I called Sennheiser, and they have the HD600 grills, but they are now $27.50 each :frowning2:

After shelling out $71.50 for the headband, I really don't want to spend another $55 on the grills, when the HD600's were just on sale for only $240 recently.

Yeah, I don't think its really worth it to completely re-build at that price.  I still think you should just mod the HD580 grill cups like the other member did.  I wonder how hard it would be to strip the paint off the OEM 580 cups?

[EDIT]  Oh one more thing... I think some HE60 parts are interchangeable with the 58/60/650.  There have been members who modded with HE60 headband cushions and earpads.  I have no first hand experience with these mods, heres some www pics.

Good Luck though!!  I had two of these at one point, ended up selling the OEM one.
