The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
Dec 8, 2014 at 6:48 AM Post #2,281 of 3,535
is anybody here lucky enough to be able to compare the fx850 to noble K10?
have the the fx850, really enjoy it, but sometimes wish for some more soundstage, more upfront vocals and instrument separation.....and the K10 just looks so hot..
please (for the sake of my wallet) tell me the k10 is not worth the money if I have the fx850

You want MORE soundstage than the 850 ?? It has the biggest, best soundstage I`ve heard in an iem, bigger than my SE846.

However, any multi-BA iem like the Noble may be a nice compliment to the 850.  But I seriously doubt better overall.

Personally, I feel like the 846 taught me I don`t like multi-BAs, and the 850 taught me I LOVE dynamics.

Good luck.  And please share your experience .

I am with you...I have found the 850 to have great soundstage and instrument separation. It actually bests a lot of the full cans I have heard.

haha, thanks dopaminer & subguy, that's what I (and my wallet) wanted to hear :)

the soundstage of the fx850 is pretty good for an iem, but I am used to good earbuds and also big headphones and was thinking, that maybe a TOTL ciem like the K10 could be a jack of all trades. It's somehow good to hear that the fx850 bests even the mighty se846 in this regard, so I guess the K10 won't be far better ..especially for the money

Had a chance to listen to demo units of 850 and 1100 (to which i bought the 850 shortly after) at Yodobashi here in Japan last week. The 1100 is a step up from 850 in terms of warmth and soundstage. Quite engaging with instrumentals, while retaining the richness of vocals and quality bass (for simulating tube-like response, i guess). However, i find the 1100 too bulky and warm for my taste, so I bought the 850 instead.

It's bigger than the 850? It looks almost "identical" (See "My Cousin Vinnie") to the 1100 - in what way was it bulkier?

Wait, so the 1100 has even more focus on the lows? :l

Bulky for my small ears. The 850 sits flush between the targus and antitargus and stays put while the 1100 is a bit fatter in the barrel. Not necessarily a low-focused IEM. There is added warmth and the soundstage feels expansive, which makes for a relaxing presentation. Worth twice than 850 for the price, though (around 52000+ yen or $430).

I also did a long, relatively high-quality comparison demo with an 850 and an 1100 (and a ATH CKR9 LTD).  I was extremely pleased, relieved actually :  I much prefer the 850.  The 1100 is SUPER smooth, really beautiful, but sounding slightly muffled compared to the 850.  I come from the SE846 (and HD800) and I do appreciate detailed sound, highly detailed, the more detailed the better.  The 850 blows my mind because, for me, it brings it all to the table : the detail and soundstage of the SE846, but with that huge, quality 850 bass.  And, I`m beginning to learn, the cohesive timing of a single dynamic driver.

The 1100 is fantastic, but it seems that some of that detail that the 850 brings is missing.

I would say the sound difference between the 850 and 1100 significant, not subtle, so I encourage everyone who can to demo the 1100. It may be exactly what some people are looking for.    The 1100 is 50k¥, the 850 is 24k¥ and I don`t think that`s realistic at all.

Spend some time w a multi driver iem n dynamic iem n see what u enjoy most. I nearly got a v8 stage when I got a v6 stage for my niece. She is a drummer n loves e clear separation of instruments etc. E sub bass n separation n vocals were excellent on e v8. But after trying it n comparing for it w my 850. I find e intimacy of e 850 lovely n e v8 too technical. Recently tested lear hybrid 6 driver 4.2 n e single dynamic ae1n found myself going for e ae1. For me, its quite clear I prefer e dynamic sound than multi driver iem. Try them for urself or best do a double blind test n see what ur ears go for.

That sounds like its going to match up with the TWags much more so than the 850s, 850s smoothness is just nice which diminishes with the TWag V2 that i have tried, if 1100s really were much smoother, combining them with the TWags might possibly achieve mind-blowing results.

No blurring for the 1100 though. It sounds more full-bodied and enveloping, while retaining clarity across the frequencies. Perhaps the 6N OEC contributes to this effect.

Had this paired with my Sony NWZ-A15. Might vary with other sources.
