  Added the Intruder to drive a pair of HE-6 w/the benefit of a quality portable amp.  On the balanced HE-6, the sound is clear and the background black, and the phones are opening up while burning the system in.  The volume needs to be pushed to max on sources as well as amp, but this doesn't seem to affect SQ.  Am hoping to hear impressions of others with this combination.

Are you in high gain? I don't need to use max volume but I guess it depends upon what you are listening to.

Am in high gain, and the sound is clean--for most classical and jazz music I need to push the volume up, less so for other types of music, but this could also be an effect of the recordings.  I like what I hear though.

(Playing through the reservoir, I hear some songs so clearly, but at a lower volume on the MB Pro12-Intruder-HE-6, although the sound is neutral and like it should be, and so I really like it; cannot imagine any dynamic set-up w/out the Intruder, which makes so much possible, the Bowie collection sounds fantastic, the German version of "Heroes," "Helden," is exhilarating.)

I've had the Intruder for about 8 months or so and had in the past always used it as single ended out to the headphones.  I recently made a cable to use the headphones as balanced into a mini xlr jack and the sound just not as good through the balanced.  Does using the balanced output require burn in?  The sound is just is dry and non-dynamic compared to the single ended input...It's just as loud, but the dynamic range seems to have suffered.  Thoughts?
 
BTW I have tested using USB in and single ended in, maybe I just need to get a balanced in.

UPDATE:  Figured out that the 2/4 which are positive on my Neutrik jacks do not line up with the Mouser 163-191J-E numbers.  So instead 2/4 positive on the neutrik jacks = 1/2 I believe or the two bottom pins on the mouser jack.
 
The Intruder now seemingly has twice as much power!  It's crazy good!

The Intruder is unquestionably good and maximized in the right configurations.  After about 100 hours now on the HE-6, it's settling into an amazing place.  Am only curious about increasing the volume while maintaining the clean delivery.

Seems something is wrong on the wiring. How have you wired this?

Fixed it see my post above.  Numbers on the Mouser connection aren't the equivalent of what's on the Neutrik jacks.

+1 !!  The Intruder just keeps amazing me - I've got about 350 hrs on mine now. I'm not one to really believe in burn-in for solid-state electronics, but it seemed to keep improving up to about the 250 hr mark. Since then I haven't really noticed any changes. The fact is I've used my HD800s with it almost exclusively so I'm not really sure if it was the Intruder doing the burn-in or the HD800s. It seems more likely it was the HD800s considering that mechanical components on them are more likely to change/adapt over time. Regardless, I love the combo.
 
I'm still planning to get a Bryston BHA-1 but given the Intruder's stellar performance, I'm definitely not in a hurry. As much as I didn't plan on using the HD800s portably, I know it's within the realm of possibility given the Intruder.

I have it for almost a year now. Using it with CIEMS balanced and with LCD 3 single ended. Comparing with a Burson Conductor I would say it's not far behind. Maybe a bit too close .....  ))))

Just an update.  I continue to enjoy with Intruder with a modified iPod (WhipMod), a variety of DIY 4 and 8 caps Lod, SE-846, and Custom 7N UPOCC 22Awg Balanced. Friends/Fellow Audiophiles/Retailers  in a recent Head-fi Meet were quite amazed, and have only very positive comments/remarks. Maybe they were being polite/friendly,  but I think their eyes and smile indicate their remarks/comments to be very are honest, as well. I have auditioned the set-up with other "Branded" portable amps, SE and Balanced and the Intruder, throughout 2013 and for me it remains to be my preference/favorite.

Also an update.  After about 200 hours of burn in perhaps I am imagining things, or maybe the shift away from classical and into more modern recordings resolves it but the volume is perfect, loud and perfectly too loud, and the clarity incredible.  I use a Bushmaster MK II DAC for my dynamic set up but am happy with the DAC/amp combo in the Intruder paired with the HE-6.  The sound is perfect and what I was hoping for with this combo (+ Moon Audio balanced cable).  Overall, I am really stunned by everything this small device does--I'm hearing everything I was hoping to hear apart from stats.

That has been my opinion. It just gets the sound right with transparency that transports you to the music and with well recorded live music, it is even more fun.

I've got everything burning in now--the HE-6s, Intruder, and Silver Dragon cable.  The sound is wide open now after over 250 hours; testing on lossless Gamelan, which can serve as a nice reference, and it's like a virtual environment, clear and spaced apart remarkably.  Volume is no longer an issue, the combination superb.
