I'm absolutely not saying SU sounds unnatural. But DOC's version just sounds even more natural en a little bit fuller. But it's sound, so your mileage may vary  .... the version I'm talking about is the one that's being discussed a couple of posts ago. It's DX50 firmware based on the stock DX100 firmware.

Just put Doc's favorite firmware V2 on. My impressions after 10 minutes of listening:
-Strong kick drum thud, seems like there is some low and mid boost. Highs seem neutral
-Vocals are very good. very good.
-Electric guitar range seems boosted (probably overlaps with vocals. this lends itself well to vocals, but guitars can get a little too loud sometimes.
-Toms sound great.

So far its one of my favorite un-amp'd FW's. I like SU 1.3.3 but find it too neutral and not very lively (I like a little thump in my lows and a little sparkle in my highs, a smiley face response curve basically, but many of the alternate firmwares have too much smile. I think 1.3.3 is the most neutral FW and really shines with acoustic and vocal music.) I think DFFv2 has a good amount of smile to it, but is slightly too mid-forward for music with a bunch of electric guitars. Overall probably my 3rd or 4th favorite FW.

Ill try DFFv1 and post thoughts in a while.

That turned off my excitement about this new FW. I listen a lot of progressive rock/metal with complex guitars and lot of different instruments in the mix (O.R.Lopez, The Mars Volta for example) and I do not wish one sound/instrument "overpowering" other one. Still, I`m willing to give it a go this weekend.

I like DFFv1 much more than V2.
Low end boost is there, but not as much as V2. I like it more because it sounds to me like it more localized to the true bass region (<60hz) as opposed to v2 I think it bleeds into the low midbass which creates a muddy sound to me.

vocals sound good, maybe not quite as prominent as V2, but the mids dont accentuate the electric guitar range as much either, which is good because I thought that V2 got screechy/too loud.

Highs have a little sparkle. Just enough that it seems like there might be a small boost here, but its done with restraint and I like it.

I only have 5 songs on V1 as im writing this, but it may be my favorite unamped FW. Overall, I'd say go with DFFv1 over v2. Ill give it a couple days before I say this officially, but it may be my favorite FW so far (at least with the limited music i've listened to on to this point)

Also @CoiL I just gave v1 a test with Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium -Take the Veil (Cerpin Taxt) and do not find V1's guitar overpowering, which can happen easily with the Volta in my experience. Also, you reminded me how amazing this whole album is. Take the Veil is one of my all time favorite songs. (I just got to the guitar into bass solo into the last breakdown and I am loooooving this FW)

Anyways I highly recommend V1 and am neutral (at best) to V2.

After some more testing and listening I did find a problem with DOCs firmware. There's something about the highs that bothers me. It's not distorted but they give me an MP3 like feeling. This effect is more pronounced when using the LO than using HO but it's there. On my way back to SU.

everybody has there own perception of sound ,to my ears docs new firmware is more lively and more open
sounding 1.3.3 has a more neutral sound i think but have to do some more testing for my final thoughts.
it is difficult to determine which firmware is better due to both having good points and bad , wish we could have
a mixture of the 2 , the neutrality of 1.3.3 and the open sound of v2 .. but more than happy with the v2 but cant help
myself still wanting 1.3.3 only time will tell if i revert back .

fantastic work and always look forward to new and exiting firmware keeps my toy new lol .

i found that also with the lo only slightly tho mind , and you have to take into consideration what headphones you are using
also. i use the shure se 535 and they are known to be very bright and forward .

Nicholasheadfi2 ,what do You mean by open sound? Imho SU is very open sounding in terms of soundstage, layering and transparency.
What headphones are You using? With Fidelio X1 & Piston v2.1 SU sounds very very good to my ears, not so good as my desktop setup though, but quite close.

more open i guess i mean more involving and engaging and a bit more detail in the upper mid range ,
dont get me wrong i love the su 1.3.3 and might revert back to it .

the su 1.3.3 seems easier to live with and seems to be more forgiving with some tracks .

Is this firmware the same as the Doc2008 3rd Edition?

No, DX50 NEW DOC`S FAVORITE FIRMWARE V1 is completely revised firmware. Based on my new full port of DX90 2.0.5 FW for DX50.

P.S. As for me, the first version sounds much better than the second. Сompared head-on, DX50 with NEW DOC`S FAVORITE FIRMWARE V1 is very close in sound to DX90.

No, not that one. I am referring to "Doc's Favorite Firmware V1"

It can be found here:
https://docviewer.yandex.com/?url=ya-disk-public%3A%2F%2FMz9F80unWOYN1iMQNIcsgtLa6prL5QJBAklN%2BZk%2B4fQ%3D&name=DX50_NEW_DOC%60S_FAVORITE_FIRMWARE.zip&c=545ce7c71e96

And because its handy, Here is the link to all of Docs firmwares:
http://player.ru/showthread.php?t=139417&s=24c55e0036539c8ef5b01a878f6706db (russian)

or the microsoft translation:

And I agree with Doc, V1 is better than V2.
