I can answer that question. It's better. The O2 is simple a better amp than the C5. Unless you like a slightly warm sound with your amps.

Oh and the C5 might look innocent, but it's quite bulky and heavy when paired with the DX50.

I, and many others, did not find the C5 to be warm sounding nor "heavy".

What do you mean bulky and heavy when paired with the DX50? it's the same size as the DX50.. And also, I'm sure it would've been your IEMs that had influenced the warm sound on the amp.

(Each to their own. :D)

Comparable to the M8, you say? That's pretty good for a near $200 amp if you can put it up against something like the great, M8.

Through that, I'm rather convinced to grab an O2 now, haha..

The M8 overall is slightly ahead in my opinion. But on some tracks I tested it's really hard to hear any difference. The bass on M8 is a little bit tighter. The mids on O2/DX50 seems a bit forward compared to M8. It's the highs which I really find difficult to discern any difference though. For instrument separation and sound stage I believe they are equal. But M8 I think has a bit more depth.

Only if DX50 came sooner I may have found myself in a very difficult position picking up the M8 especially with the price difference. The DX50/O2 combo is easily below USD 400 including shipping while M8 is 699 and you still need a DAP.

I just bought the C&C BH2 and it sounds really good with the DX50! What is the absolute most that you want to spend? That's the big question. Really the DX50 has more than enough power for the ATH-M50, also you could use the eq settings to flavor your headphones more.

About the DX50/O2 combo, can anyone who have tried this with the HD650 please kindly offer some thoughts on the combination. I have the HD650 and the DX50 pre-order should arrive soon and I'm thinking of setting up a bedside rig with the O2. Any thoughts or suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The O2 does very well with the HD650!

Thanks sorenslim, would you kindly give a brief description of high mids and lows of the combination. I've come to understand that we might hear things differently but would like to know how you've heard them. Thanks again and to anyone who could chip in.

They use calipers for precision measurements but for a manual IC cable braiding, that's what was funny.

Right I understand now

I spent the last two days listening to the Heaven VI directly from the DX50 headphone out. I love the portability and the sound is warm and compelling. (1.2.2, brethren!)

I sure would like to stick with this. It is plenty musical. (1.2.2, brethren!) Detail isn't bad at all. The convenience is fantastic. Things is: this evening I just reattached my Pico Power. DX50 + PP + HVI = ...heaven.

The DX50 headphone out really is good. From the line out it is a fine, fine source. The Pico Power continues to amaze me.

(I have some heavy duty, i.e. thick, 3M Dual Lock that has arrived at my office. It might be time to lose the rubber band. On the other hand, I have a Miniaudio silicon case arriving at Jaben. Bit of a contradiction there.)
