this tread has become the wrestlemania of headphones. Grado VS sennheiser-to settle their decade long freud.

What's wrong with you guys? This is a free country and everybody is entitled to his/her opinion, even if you agree or not with it.
He does not like the Senns sound and period...BTW me neither. Will I open a thread for that? Certainly not, but this is my choice, if he chooses to do it, it is OK, and period, if you like it, good, and if not, simply do not post on this thread, and you will be happy. This thread is for the people WHO DO NOT LIKE THE SENNHEISER SOUND OF THESE PARTICULAR MODELS instead of for the ones who does to throw stones at him, and crap the thread. Believe it or not, as any other, this could be a very informative thread, for the ones who does not like the Senn sound, and why, and to show all the people that there is not an agreement on that, and that there is only favorable opinions about them, as everything in life, and as usual, one size does not fits all...

We have seen here many threads expressing our dislike on this or that particular model, made by known brands, or not, the HD6XX is not the best headphone in the world for everybody, and even for some people, it is considered a really bad one...so what!!!!

And this is not fanboyism (before some of the ilustrated members chime in with those absurd comments) I know, and I'm a 100% in agreemnt, with the idea that the same applies to the rest fo them as well......Including the ones I like...

And, the funniest thing of all is that I look in your profile, and see two of the most spectacular products one could possible buy per dollar at this moment in time. Just because one owns a pair of Senn cans doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand how one could like a pair of Grado double deuce fives, and a stellar Marantz unit. Believe it, or not we are all on the same team; Team Happy!

LOL, the difference is that 99% of the board thinks that Senns are good cans whose sound signature might or might not be to your taste while 99% of the board thinks the Triports are overpriced crap that are technically without the slightest merit.

That being said, I agree with Sov on this one. The gentleman doesn't like the Senn sound and voiced his opinion. He's free to do that, though I think he's overlooking some of their technical merits. Then again one of the things that makes this a discussion board is that people listen for different characteristics when they use headphones and apparently these merits are not what he's listening for. I think he might really learn from having his question honestly answered since it would bring the technical merits into the discussion and allow him to include them in his listening.

So without further ado, let's try answering his unspoken question

The characteristic that the Senns are most noted for, in my opinion is their excellent depth of sound. In my experience they do a wonderful job of conveying depth, particularly for their price range. In addition, they have a pleasing smooth presentation which is wonderfully non-fatiguing and really seems to work magic with many varieties of acoustic music. On the other hand there are certainly other manufacturers products I reach for when I want to rock out, like Grado!

The 3 Sennheiser headphones I've heard-- HD 265, HD 560, and HD 250 II all were very disappointing. I realize they are anything but the cream of the crop from Sennheiser, and I would really like to hear a higher end model like the 600 or 650. They each had their own merit, but the overall sound was very disappointing especially for being so expensive. Someone want to loan me a 555, 595, 600, or 650?

You are entitled to do it, just that in that one, you will not see me posting, simply I have nothing to say in a thread that does not offer a margin for debate, and try to impose an opinion at all costs...

Again, this thread is not about technical merits, IMO technical merits have nothing to do with the enjoyment and liking of a particular sound. We all know that the Senns are very capable of making happy many persons, as they indeed do, and technically talking maybe they are very good as well (even though, and we could do a poll if you like, I doubt that the percentage of persons who consider their sound as top notch, or their cup of tea, will be anything near around 99%)

Even me, believe it or not, I was a happy owner of the HD600.....just before trying others, (LOL...ignorance is a bliss, we do not have anymore...) but he is talking about liking or not this particular sound of these models, he does not, period, he consider what he does, and this is his opinion, that doesn't make that opinion more valid, just a personal opinion, as usual.

I agree with your commnets about the senns to a certain point on their sound, but I may add that IMO I consider them veiled, rolled off on the two ends, and dull in comparison to other headphones, that does not make them bad, some may like this presentation, I do not....Some may like other presentations, that are more forward, detailed and IMO cover much better the WHOLE spectrum....And yes, they exist, and we have many choices if you like those.....

Oh!!!! You simply forgot to say....PERIOD......(yeah right!!!!) I have haard them in even a multithousand setup. And FYI, one of the best sources available (bozebotton's transport plus DAC) and the Maestro and Supra......later on, on the Esoteric and a couple of amps Aaron had home on that mini-meet (SR-71 and RP33).....Do these count as good sources, and good amps???? Result.....IMO much better than a Cmoy (of course) but same BS, the sonic nature will be still the same, for those who DO NOT LIKE IT!!!!

You my friend are one of the few on this forum who actually have heard them in a proper setup.... If you don't like the sound, then thats it case is closed you have formed a solid oppinion based on listening sessions made with optimal gear.

What is unacceptable (IMHO) is the far too common practice ... to rag on a product without demo-ing it in the right conditions. I myself have been guilty of this, and prior ot the San Jose meet, thought the Senn house-sound (HD580/600/650) was just awfull. I may have even posted some comments here that have mis-lead others... when in reality it was MY fault for not demoing them with the equipment they were designed to be used with.

Im one of the few on this forum who like BOTH grado and Senn signatures. IMHO they both are pleasing to my ears, in a different kind of way.
