The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

Does anyone leave their GS-X on all the time?

I've forgotten to turn it off before for a day or so without ill effects.  The boxes were 'warm' but nothing I'd be concerned about.

Does anyone leave their GS-X on all the time?

Like all my audio gear my GS-X stays on 24/7.

Even your tube amps?!?!

@justin w. or @kevin gilmore - Opinion about keeping the GSX powered up all the time?

PS - I've been to Justin's workshop and trust me they are all made by hand (literally, he was soldering parts and testing things by hand).  I've seen some of his 'reject' parts and the quality demands would be unnoticed by the end user if you didn't directly compare 'A' to 'B', but Justin's tolerances are so tight that quite a few items get rejected (and thus slows down production).

Trust me, you're getting boutique quality with the boutique production times and it's totally worth it.  If you needed an amp NAO I'm sure there's pleanty on the net.

Yes, even tube gear when I had some.  Same goes for the PC... and clocks :O  I use them all too much in a day to be constantly heat cycling them.

I leave all of my solid state amps/preamps on 24/7

except for the krell. which consumes 200 watts at idle and fills the room with heat.

its the temperature of the room that really is the main issue.

I already consume 100% more electricity than my neighbors, so says
commonwealth Edison.

hot tub, 7 computers, 600 watt tv, 1kw projector etc.

Well you can also service all of your gears without any difficulties once they break down to sir.

Things break during states of change more than during steady states.  Which is to say.. constant power cycling is a lot more risky than just letting it run.

Several folks have commented about how great the GS-X MK2 sounds with the new HiFiMAN HE1000.  That caused me to look into it.

Going to the website, all I see is a price for 1/4 of it at $699, plus the word "alpha."  It also mentions 12 weeks.

So is the approach that you deposit $699, wait about 12 weeks, then put up the other 3/4s of the cost, for a total I guess of $2,796, and receive the amp?

I see the info in this thread seems to indicate that each one is built individually, possibly to order.  Just checking.

Thanks!

Alpha refers to the Alpha potentiometer, which is a continuously-tracking volume knob—i.e., it turns smoothly without steps. May be ideal if you intend on using either efficient headphones or IEMs with the amp, as it allows more volume precision. DACT refers to an alternative, a 24-stepped volume knob that technically provides better volume matching between channels (left/right), particularly at lower volumes.

Forget about any time indication, particularly the 12 weeks.

I made my 1/4 deposit in 01/2014, paid in full after payment request in 02/2015 and I am still waiting.
Justin recently mentioned something like to have them "on stock" so it might be a very different situation in the future but be prepared that anything mentioning a timing is not accurate.

All that said it is nice to know that if you ever do want to sell a HeadAmp product you get 100%+ of your money back.  Looking over my HeadAmp purchases and sales I think I'm up some ~$500 :O
