I have the fiio x3 2nd gen and i use it with kef in ears and beyerdynamic dt 880 250 ohm version.now to get something from the beyers i have to crank the volume up to 80 -90 percent with the settings of gain on high. I listened at a local store to fiio e11k and e12 with my setup. While e11k wasn t making any differnce, the e12 sure did. I didn t buy any of them still waiti g for black friday. But now i came across the e12A which i understand still drives 300ohm headphones well. I think i could get a nice discount on e12A next month. What do you rcommend? E12 or e12A?

The e12A has slightly more driving power than the X3ii (>200 mW (32 Ω/THD+N<1%) but it's very close, while the e12 has 4x the driving power (>880 mW (32 Ω/THD<1%). So the question is do you want more headroom for difficult to drive headphones with the e12 Mont Blanc, or do you prefer the sound signature of the e12A over the X3ii with about the same power output?

I really don t know how the e12A sounds. I tested the e12 that drives the dt880 very nice, but i read about the e12A being very good all around. From the specs, it looks like e12a is pretty similar to e11k powerwise, but " power is nothing without control " :))
P.S. I quite like the soundsignature of x3ii.

It seems that the Fiio X3 2nd gen is the perfect DAP for me: specifications, price, BUT only one thing... one only microsd slot.
Yes, I know that X5 (2nd gen) got 2 microsd slot, but I have not enough money to buy it!
Will be possible that Fiio make a new model in the same quality and price range than this X3II with double microsd slot???

Get an OTG cable and a flash drive and you'll have all the additional storage you want.

Thank you for the reply.
I did not know about this opportunity to expand the memory ...
What about battery duration when using an OTG cable + external memory?

Depending on your OTG device, you could lose an hour or two. I use aa 128 gig sandisk flash drive and still get 10 hours of playback. With my transcend card reader, I only get 8 hours. This was discussed a few pages back. I'm on my phone so I can't provide you the link to the OTG thread.
