  Question: What would be a good reason to upgrade the firmware to 1.45? As far as I have read, 1.44 is overall better. (I have not personally tested it myself).

Both fw you mention are beta fw.  You are essentially testing the fw.  The current stable fw is 1.4.  You can read about what's been added or removed from the fw versions on FiiO's website.

I never said anything about being able to read about the beta fw on FiiO's website.  I was just referring to where to find out information about fw.

Some updates:

The beta firmware supporting the new DAC driver version 3.34 has been updated to X3 FW 1.45:

On the other hand, the old 1.61 DAC driver is available for download here and is compatible with older firmware:

I know about 1.44. What we don't know much about is 1.45. What I know about 1.45 is that it uses a much newer version USB driver for Windows. The EQ is fixed. And finally, search is still very much broken.

When saying that EQ is fixed in 1.45, does it means that there's no more dropped db /SQ when raising the frequencies?

That's not a bug. If you raise the frequencies on a lot of today's recordings, you will distort because they have them a about 0db if not sometimes over 0db. By saying the EQ is fixed means it works where it did not work.

Ok thanks for the clarification, but I always use EQ on the X1 and it doesn't seems to have any drop in SQ.

EQ is really helpful in X1 but useless in X3II

Guess what's new about beta fw 1.45?  It works with the new USB DAC driver.  That's what my link said.  I'm only linking what's been posted.  Perhaps you should direct all of your questions to FiiO and find out the answers.

EQ is really helpful in X1 but useless in X3II

 
If I am not mistaken, when you use the EQ on the X1, it lowers the overall maximum volume.
