External design (shape and size) should not affect DAC / amp performance... We are not talking about headphone driver here xD

Not directly but then you factor in battery size and circuit design and it could put too many design restrictions. As much as when we look at amps we like to say simpler is better (just look at the Asgard, GLite, etc) on a device with several functions absolute simplicity may not have the same result. A tiny device using an integrated 16-bit DAC and headphone driver chip that mainstream players use isn't the same thing as the same player (assuming it has a good lineout) using an external amp with relatively huge capacitance and its own battery, or a player using a separate DAC, maybe an output opamp after that, then a headphone driver chip. Then you have to cram a battery and the player parts (battery, operating chip, etc) in there on the same board, then don't forget the heat each component in there can generate and all of them in a cramped space. They've removed the coaxial output not just for the plug space, but also the chip that sends the digital signal out.

How about a touch sensitive pad for navigation with four circle physical buttons on each corner?

I personally like the FiiO X1's buttons for what it is now.

By the way James @ FiiO,you said the FiiO X1 will be available next year July (if I recall correctly) and internationally on September. How many unit will be available for international shipping? (Sorry if I miss this info)

we testing the same UE in X5 and decided we will use the same UE in X1, the wheel is the best way to adjust the volume and choose the sound tracks. except the full touch screen.

too early to say how many units. but since we already have plenty experience in the production, we will have enough X1 at that time

I don't understand something. If we can adjust the volume with the scroll why is it two volume buttons on the X1 ?

Simply put, when the screen is locked you need to unlock it to adjust the vol control if the buttons not there. it's a HW buttons just like we see on the smartphones and touch, precisely.
+ what Kova mentioned.....and can be adjusted even in the dark while we bed.

Ok. I'm not that dumb. My point is, I don't see any advantage to double a fonction. Ergonomically speaking, it's a mistake from my point of view. I'll like to only adjust the volume via the hardwarer buttons and keep the scroll for selection, etc.

yeah it's your preference but it's an added advantage built in the UI to have all controls being controlled by screen during audio playback....so many get used to it.it's kind of standards now.

my only request is to open a proper dealership of fiio in INDIA.

ppl are getting richer(relatively) but there is nothing available without import.with a huge population like china(just a bit less) fiio will increase its profit many times if it heeds this small suggestion.

ppl are vary of importing things so they rarely go to mp4 nation or other sites in india.

fiio x1 will be a blockbuster if released in 100$(rs 6200) and pls once again i will request u to think on this idea rather seriously.i am not asking u ppl to open a shop urself, just a dedicated dealership of sorts on the lines of mp4 nation.

i want to buy fiio x3 but here market rate is 241-250$ as opposed to 200-220 in other parts of the world due to low availability because its available only through PROAUDIOHOME.COM

In my opinion u should distribute this product through all the online retailers but a distribution centre dedicated to india should be must for fiio if it wants to expand fast.

my wishes for successful product
