1. You are experiencing periodic noise?
2. With or without the ER? - did it happen after the ER?
3. The ER is old tech please match and read up on the spec(ask LHY). I don´t think they are compatible. ER is old tech
According to Alex Crespi from Uptone Audio, the ER's internal clock measurements exceed the OCK-1, and the the OCK-2 may provide a tiny benefit, assuming everything is implemented correctly, i.e. impedance matched correctly and a suitable clock cable.
The ER can work with either square or sine wave clocks. When you use the external clock input on the ER, the internal clock is out of the circuit.
The OCK-2 clock in your SW-10 should match technically, but square wave clock systems are extremely fussy about impedance in the devices and clock cable. It's possible you have an impedance issue, but I suspect the bigger problem is that you defeat the ER moat when you connect the SW-10 clock. The clock connection works on the B-side of the ER, and requires the external clock to be galvanically isolated. That is definitely not the case with the clock in the SW-10, so you are enabling a ground path from the SW-10 to the B-side of the ER. Ground potential in a digital system can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.
Have you tried clocking the LHY FMC from the SW-10 clock? That might be interesting if it's feasible.
I just want to make sure no one is getting the wrong idea. I really like the SW-10. It's an absolute upgrade. I will be keeping it in my system for the foreseeable future.
Extremely 3D is the best description I can give it. It's the closest my system sounded to "singers being in the room" when using near field monitors. For headphones, I'm using the Susvara's, and they sound great. But speakers really emphasize the three dimensionality that the SW-10 adds. You can almost feel the heat/breath from singers, they sound more alive than digital. In Rachel Hardy's rendition of "The Rains of Castamere", I feel like I'm being sung to, not just listening to her sing.
Dang... a Sean Jacobs DC4... nice. That power supply costs 10x the ER. I would love to demo one someday. I wonder how much better it is than the Ferrum Hypsos.
It's definitely up there. I've owned a few linear power supplies. Jcat Optimo 3 Duo, Fidelizer Nikola 2, Uptone JS-2, Ferrum Hypsos, and the ifi ipower elite. The Jcat, Ferrum, and Fidelizer are my top 3 for power supplies (not in that order).
I have tried the JCAT USB XE with two different clocks. The Sclk-ex and the Jcat Master Ocxo. Sort of off topic for this thread so I’ll shoot you a PM. It is a worthwhile move.
Also worth noting - the AfterDark Edgerouter ER-4 (I asked Adrian to modify mine) sounds wonderful:
Man @Exocer your system is pretty tricked out now, impressive, no wonder the iFi LAN iSilencer didn't bring the benefits it does to more modest ethernet chains like mine!
You must be due to send your Ref 10 back to Muted one of these days for the SE120 upgrade, let me helpfully remind you in case you'd forgotten...
