I thought all Stax systems were thousands of dollars at least. Then I looked on their web site a few weeks ago and see that I could in fact, afford to buy another Stax system. I had one ages ago when I was single and had money :) One thing I remember was that they came with a warning saying not to play them too loud as it could cause arcing through the membrane and eventually destroy the phones. Have they made some kind of change to the amp or phones to prevent this from happening now, or is that still a potential problem.

I am not aware of any change made to their circuits, but you can play the SRS-2170 system pretty loud!

Yup. As a matter of fact, IMO the gain on the 252S amp is actually a bit too high as matched up with a standard outputting fullsize DAC, I can only really play it around 9 and 11 o'clock mark in volume... any higher and it's WAY too loud...  wish I had a bit more of a play on it.

Nevermind, I figured it out anyways. It does have a multi-voltage cover. Is there anything I should be aware of that might not be immediately evident?

Greetings! I'm new to the forums, so forgive me if this is the wrong thread to ask in.
I've just purchased a STAX SRD-7 adapter and SR-5 earspeakers, which require the power of a stereo amp.
I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a small affordable amp sufficient enough to power these? Would the Audioengine N22 work well?
Also is there anyway my Woo Audio WA7 could work? ( I doubt it though)
Thank you.

I would honestly use a good integrated amplifier to drive the SR-5's rather than off conventional headphone amps. I can tell you they will sound good off a decent integrated amp. Have mine as Marantz PM-32 > SRD-7mk2 > SR-5. Wonderful voicing and separation and mids.

Wow, mechgamer123 and I just had a meetup today. The SR-207 is definitely heavier compared to the SR-202. It's like a LCD-2 vs HD800 (not really, but there's a pretty noticeable difference in weight).

Too bad we didn't actually have time to compare them though :(
Eventually we'll do that ;)
